This is why I've been splitting my time between SFM and Blender. SFM is amazing, but I got to the point where I understood about 85% of the functionality and realized there was really not a lot of information out there about *animating* in SFM. Most of the (very valuable) information is focused on using the tool, not the art of animating. The downside of course is that Blender is infinitely more complicated than SFM, so I went from producing amateur content in SFM to producing really nothing worth *showing* in Blender.

It's a tough call. Now I grapple every day with whether I would rather just "do something" in SFM, or "learn" in Blender.

Learn Both. If you're going to dabble in SFM, then sooner or later you're going to want to create a missing prop or fix a broken model. Blender is your tool for that.

It gets me so confused. I press ctrl on a model and when i record a walking animation like a scout walking while f11 and f12 i can't animate the character i want it tripping on a rock and stuff but i twont let me

Practice Maple, it's all practice... (and patience)

The offcial tutorials cover basically everything - just that it goes somewhat fast and skims over some stuff for newcomers.

A way to make it easier is instead of thinking of the timeline as a usual timeline - think of it as a world or space. Animate everything first, then cut, light, and camera later.

I highly recommend Jimer Lins on Youtube...(I think that's how he spells it)

Basics first, then branch out...
