Portals from Portal

So, I'm attempting to have the apperence of a portal in SFM. I know actual portals are not going to happen, but I would like to make the apperence of one. Only problem is, though, that I can't get the ring to show up (it's just a rectangle that makes overlays disappear when it's over them), nor do I know how to set up an RT camera thing, or whatever. Help, anyone?

Still hopeful, though, as I managed to get some particles working.

This will work, thank you! I'll have to make the actual ring of the portal, but that shouldn't be too hard.
