Little confused. Can anyone help?
Hey guys! If you saw my recent post, I'm looking for a new Pc to run SFM. I've found the Pc i'd like but I'd like to know if I'll need a new monitor or not.

I currently have a Dell 2007WFP Display
1680 x 1050
Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB graphics

I'll provide the link to it:
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-2007WFP-1680x1050-resolution/dp/B000FI6R72/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1477056824&sr=8-1&keywords=dell+2007wfp

Thanks for any help!

You need a monitor with 1080p resolution and 16:9 aspect ration.

Refer to the minimum requirements on Source FilmMaker's Steam store page.
Monitor: 1366 x 768 (1920 x 1080 suggested)

No, you don't. It's recommended, but not required. As long as it's at least 1366x768, it will officially work, regardless of resolution and aspect ratio, and it might even work below that. I definitely could run it on my laptop, which has a screen resolution of 1366x768, without being bothered by "too small window" errors. And even then, I'm pretty sure it will still work in even 1280x720 and maybe below that too (albeit not optimally). Either way, 1680x1050 is definitely enough.

Edit: Missed the GPU earlier when making this comment. As Now Custy said, the framerate will be awful with an Intel GPU. As Now Custy didn't say, the quality will also be awful.

Your first step is to understand that the hd 4000 WILL slow you down. You will have people tell you all the time: "oh i use sfm with my hd 4000 and it works fine!" Which is simply ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It will work, but i can assure you render times will be hindered and fps while animating or posing will be slowed down.

Display does matter but is not something you directly NEED to have at 1080p. Id recommend 1080p.

Custy, don't get resolution confused with screen size. As Zappy says, a 1366x768 monitor will work fine with SFM but it is suggested that you have a 1920x1080 for proper viewing at 1080P. You can still produce 1080 work with a 1366x768 monitor, you will just not get the entire picture on the screen without having to scroll it or use the monitor software to downscale the 1080 to fit the screen. It can still display 1360x765 which is 16:9

Where the quality aspect plays heaviest is in the graphics chip itself, and the Intel HD4000 just doesn't cut the mustard. You really need a dedicated GPU like a Radeon or a Nvidia card.

Firstly, that's below Source FilmMaker's official minimum requirements (and again, aspect ratio doesn't impact Source FilmMaker's usability, I believe, with non-16:9 aspect ratios being fine (it's just the export itself that has to be 16:9)). Secondly, I don't think you can set Windows to render at that resolution.

Buy 1080p monitor. Nuff said.

Most laptop screens are 1366x768 unless you purposely go to a 1920x1080

jack i knew what i am talking about. I know SFM can display that and i meant he needs to have a 1080p monitor for the best results.

Alright, thanks guys!

Why not a 4K monitor then, that's going to be the new normal standard!

The Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB graphics wont do you much good. You cannot, at all, run any decent ambient occulsion with it. I used to have a computer with the same GPU.

Not sure if it's in your price range, but a dedicated GPU would help.

Ja, I'll find one that works. Thanks for the feedback!
