I was curious if there's an ETA on the Linux client?

Unlike NS2, ND isn't a resource killer, it is just the oposite. I read about people with very good specs in trouble with running NS2, I got 20fps myself, but my specs aren't great, although is more than enough to run ND on wine with max settings at 1920x1080.

There will be a dedicated server beta available at or around the same time.

Is there anything special we need to do to get into this upcoming beta?

Nuclear Dawn will automatically show up in your Games list on linux once the beta goes live, but on all systems, to use the new beta, you'll have to opt into it in the Steam game properties on the Betas tab. This provides an inconvenice on Windows/Mac of not being able to have both the beta and non-beta installed at the same time, so we'll try to keep this initial stage short.

Once we're confident that there are no showstopping bugs on the Windows and Mac versions, we can promote it to the normal build so that using the Betas tab will not be necessary and all users will be able to play on current servers. We will continue to fix reported bugs on the linux version, which will still be considered to be a beta for a bit, and may use the betas tab to test further fixes.

The initial round of the beta should be live tomorrow. We're just working out some deployment issues right now to make sure that everything goes smoothly and especially to make sure that there's no disruption for current players. I'll post an announcement when it's up.

Will a known issues list be published around the time the beta starts? just that way there won't be reporting of already known issues, for those of us who like to break stuff.

Actually, on that note, is the Steam community hub here the best place to be reporting issues for the Linux version? If not, where is? :)

I will create another forum here in the discussion area to report new issues with the update.

Maybe use Github? It's much better for tracking issues (and referrencing stuff to each other) than Valve forums. It would filter out random or offtopic posts (you need Github account etc).

Also most Linux users already know what Github is and how to use it :)

Something like:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware

Some technical difficulties may delay this by another day or two. Stay tuned.

Anything new on this?

damn you d10sfa, when I saw the notification I thought it was the availability announcement on Linux Beta =/

I'm working on getting things packaged right now. Unfortunately, most people won't actually be able to download it on linux until Valve fixes something on their end. I'm waiting to here back.
