Failed to start game

Hello, I can't seem to make this game work on my machine. It says "Failed to Start game. (Unknown error)" I have tried everything my friend and I can think of. I am using windows 10. It started once and I clicked on settings and then crashed. Now I am here with it not even starting.

Verify the game cache if you havn't already, also verify the half-life 2 game files as Synergy is dependent on them.

If no-go after that manually delete the Synergy folder from your steamapps/common/ folder and re-verify, this will make it re-download/install all the files.

You do have HL2 right? Make sure you've played it at least to the main menu so it's files can be initialized or Synergy will not function correctly.

Does your HL2 game work?
Any error messages? (or any other info that may help)

HL2 is working fine. No other error messages are coming up. Would Half-life 2: Update interfere with it?

System specs:
Mobo: Gigabyte 970A-UD3P
CPU: Phenom X4 965 BE
PSU: Power cooler Gold 650 Watt
GPU: Sapphire R9 280 (oc core 1075 MHz and Ram 5.4 GHz)
RAM: HyperX 8 GB (x2)
HDD: 1 500 GB WD green and 1 Seagte barracuda 1TB
