Crysis

crysis1 on first start! "could not write license data! contact customer support for further instruction."
It doesn't work! I have windows 8 x64 with core 2 due cpu and radeon HD 4500 graphic card. I tried all the solutions online, like "give admin rights to exe file", "download this x64 version as a zip file", and "add application to anivirus trusted apps". i even tried to run it under compatibility mode of win xp. i'm a developer and i can say 100% this is either a bug or a result of incompatibility with windows 8 x64. if that's true then why didn't they announce it??

other than this, i have to say when i downloaded the crysis1 and wanted to play it, the steam installed and configured bunch of other apps. one of those was this gamespy comrade which didn't install correctly and gave an error during installation which in turn caused crysis1 process to fail with that error. i couldn't even start the game. so after that gamespy comrade was failed it gave me a dialog with a link to an re-installation of some sort which i followed and nothing was there!

any kind of help is appreciated!

I got the same problem so I asked for a refund. I bought Crysis 2 from amazon and it works just fine on my computer. Gamespy wouldn't load and that probably stops everything. After I get my rebate I'll buy it elsewhere. No phone help from Steam or Gamespy !!!

I got it working, but without help of anybody!!

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO MIGHT ENCOUNTER THIS ISSUE:

The short answer? you can't run it under the steam software and that means NOTHING will be recorded on your steam account.

SOLUTION?

1) Download the Bin64 version of Crysis if you are on any x64 system, The original one is only for x32. That 64 version is available as a seperate download which then you have to copy to your Crysis folder next to the game's default Bin32 folder. you can find the binaries on internet, if you search for it.

2) After copying the folder, Go to Crysis installation path and open the Bin64, you'll notice that there are two files, Crysis.exe and Crysis64.exe.

3) Here is the trick, Crysis64.exe wouldn't work! basically you'll end up with "this program stoped working" after a black screen.

Workaround?

First give administrator rights to all the .exe files in Bin32 and Bin64 folders, Then MAKE SURE STEAM IS CLOSED by checking the taskbar hidden icons or you'll get "could not write liscence data". After that close your antivirus program or add the Crysis.exe to exclusion files in your antivirus software. Run the Crysis.exe (not Crysis64.exe) by right clicking on the file (not the shortcut) and choosing "Run As Administrator".

To simplify the game execution each time you want to play, you can go to your desktop and then right click->new->shortcut->navigate to Crysis.exe inside of Bin64 folder and choose that file.

Next right click on this newly created shortcut and navigate to Properties->Shortcut tab->Advanced button->check Run As Administrator

Click OK and close the windows. Now each time you want to play just double click the shortcut on your desktop.

The solution for me was simple on Win 7 Ultimate

1 - Close Steam
2 - Search your hard drive for Crysis.exe (mine was in Steam\SteamApps\common\Crysis)
3 - Right Click and Run as Administrator

In my case, I own the DVD so it wasn't purchased through Steam even though I have the game in my Steam library now.

Yeah I have a better and faster solution: PIRATE the game. It works flawlesly, and since I already bought this crap from steam, I don´t think I´m breaking any law. No wonder why people preffer pirated games: they work much better and they are "free".

all that simply NOT need (not need to use pirat versions with viruses) - simply install the latest crysis patch and all will be fine http://steamcommunity.com/app/17300/discussions/0/611701360825724228/

So you resurrect an old thread to rant that a 10 year old game, which has not been worked on for at least 8 years does not work on your computers hardware or software, which did not exist at the time the game was made, so the devs had no way of knowing how to write the game to make sure it would defineatly run on your non existant hardware and software.

There are plenty of fixes on the forums, read them try them, one of them will work, if you cannot be arsed, fair enough thats on you, your the only one who is missing out on this great game.

1. Steam\steamapps\common\Crysis\Bin32
2. Crysis.exe right click - properties - compatibility - Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)
3 Run as administrator
play?
