At this point, it's pretty much common knowledge that Crytek is selling a broken game.

Now, before you fly off and state, "Hurr it's working for me, you're just a pleabian."
Understand that the black screen, crash to windows, computer lock-ups. etc are effecting roughly HALF of the people who buy this game.
Most of which have rigs that can easily run this anywhere between high and ultra IF NOT modded beyond ultra.

It should NOT be a players responsiblity to fix a developers mistakes, poor optimization and pure LACK of support.

This game was purely made to look pretty and be left on the floor after all the money was collected.
Like a busted ♥♥♥ 5 year old Lambo. You'll get no help now, but it was pretty and expensive to run back in the day.
I dare you to prove me wrong after the past 2 titles that were released on ALL platforms once they had the hype machine rolling and the CoD Kids drooling.

I firmly believe that at this point, the game needs to either:
A: Get some damn support from a developer ( Not going to happen seeing as EA owns the rights)
B: Have a sticky thread here detailing known issues, crashes, bugs and content conflicts and warning potential buyers of this titles now very common issues.
OR
C: Have it ♥♥♥♥ing removed from Steam.

And believe me;
I had it on a previous build and it ran as smooth as butter 4 years ago.
But now, Despite trying all known fixes, patches, reworks, renames etc etc. I get nothing but a black screen and a middle finger from Crytek who offer absolutely no support.


It may be time to put the poor thing to rest.

If you haven't tried the master list of patches and fixes yet it's worth a shot.

Unfortunately, the only thing that may fix it for me is playing it through Origin.. but I've yet to try as I refuse to redownload the hell-beast.

It's a legitimate question. I haven't experienced any issues with this game, and I'm using Windows 8. Tell us your system specs.

Have to agree with Retronomad[2098]. Just bought Crysis from Steam on the basis of online recommendations and it does not work. Crazy to sell something like this that's basically faulty and damage your reputation for a few bucks . I have no interest in becoming an IT specialist so that I can run the game but it is unlikely that I will buy anything else here.

Yes. All suggestions in the master list have been tried as well as anything else I can find online. Short of attempting through Origin.

It was really easy activating my Steam key on Origin.
Got on their live chat thingy > immediately someone asks if I need help > 3 minutes later Crysis is in my Origin library.

The only problem I am having (Minus the major issues with a gamepad not playing like it does on 360) is it crashes everytime I adjust anything in the options. Graphics, keybindings, what gender my suits voice is, etc. It will eventually change but it is irritating to have it crash everytime I try or want to make adjustments to the keybindings. Getting the gamepad to work as it did on consoles would be great, switching from cloak to armor back to cloak in a blink without the use of a cumbersome radial menu was sweet. That radial menu is a pain and a major oversight by Crytek that jars the flow of battle.

Actually the most weird thing is that i was able to play the game before ,on the same rig.
And then somehow half a year later,when i tried to play again i get black screen on start up.
So id say it's pretty fishy.

Think a patch helped kill it?

I may be dawning my tin foil hat here.. but.. it wouldn't be the first time EA had a hand in doing some shady things to pull in numbers...

I had some crashes on my legal steam version of crysis but i helped to myself by playing the game with compatilibity with windows 7. (that's my OS). Maybe you should try the same, but I don't guarantee that it will help you xd

As I said, I've tried everything short of allowing it to be ran through Origin.

This isn't a thread about me fixing my issue but more so a thread about getting some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ support for the game.

If people are having trouble, it's a broken product.
