★☆☆☆☆ Terrible!


The story of Velvet Assassin is told from a flashback perspective, and introduces players to Violette Summer, a British secret agent who is frequently sent behind enemy lines. Story potholes aside, the primary focus of the gameplay is around stealth as you attempt to infiltrate enemy installations and bases.

A lonely, isolated gaming experience, easy to forget and move on with. One of the hardest things about the Velvet Assassin experience is finding the will to finish it. The games efforts to engage audience with the haunting audio only makes the game more boring and unpleasant. Just as the stealth genre continues to fall into commercial hell: the release of Velvet Assassin only justifies this predicament.

Quite a rough game with a few bugs to the stealth mechanics that can be an issue if you really want the experience to be polished and authentic like. On the other hand if you just want to play yet another stealth game with no real high hopes of the game being a absolute masterpiece, this might just be the game for you. I would still recommend acquiring it on sale as the game might not work. I had to install the Physx legacy driver by Nvidia and set my main screen refresh rate to 60hz to make it work.

The story isn't great but not tedious either. Sounds and voice acting are actually better than you might think. I really liked the alluring, dark and gritty surroundings in the game. Ending was quite the shock but I didn't like that I was forced to go guns blazing during the last chapters. I'll give it a neutral recommendation as you really have to enjoy the stealth genre to be able to find this game enjoyable.
