Unreal Tournament 2004

Unreal Tournament 2004

How to create characters?
In UT you could make custom characters and play with them.

I don't think there is a way, sadly, which is really strange since you could in UT99.

You can set up custom bots. The option is a bit hidden. In instant action, change the bot option to use bot roster. Now click on a bot. You can change its stats, favorite weapon, or even nickname.

I think he means player model customization.

To answer your question Darkening Demise, no the customization as been limited to a character roster of player models. If you go into settings you should find it in the player tab.

Yeah I got mine all set but I can't edit the bots like UT. Also WTF they got rid of 3/4 team matches?! *Epic facepalm* No wonder why UT went downhill after UT, so much is getting limited and dumbed down. No doubt to appeal towards COD's simple minded community. I thought UTIII was crap but UT004 is just as bad. If it wasn't for Valve threatening to ban me if I ask for another refund (asked for one for a game two months ago) I'd return this. :steamfacepalm:

UT2004 is no where near as bad as UT3. Although I will admit I had the advantage of growing up with it. So bias has a large part to do with it, but UT2004 is still a classic to many old school shooter fans.

UT and UT2004 have the same basic player customizations, although they are presented a bit differently. The main difference is there are no longer green and gold teams, so you can't choose those colors as your default.

Bot customization, which I assume he was originally asking about, is similar in both games.

Here's what the bot customization screen looks like in the first game:

And here's what it looks like in UT2004:

As I said, it's a bit harder to find now, but most of the options are the same. The main differences are that you cannot name your custom bots on this screen, and you can't change the face and body options directly on this screen. This is because model selection is set up differently in 2k4. Almost default models have at least 2 different faces, which you pick by selecting their portraits.

Even though you can't change a bot's name in-game, you can do it by editing your UT2004.ini. You will find the following added to your ini after configuring a character:

[UnrealGame.CustomBotConfig] (CharacterName="Gorge",PlayerName="Gorge",CustomVoice=,CustomOrders=POS_Roam,FavoriteWeapon=,Aggressiveness=0.000000,Accuracy=-2.000000,CombatStyle=0.100000,StrafingAbility=0.000000,Tactics=2.000000,ReactionTime=-2.000000,Jumpiness=0.000000,bJumpy=False)

You can change the name of your configured bot by changing the PlayerName section.

Another method is to set up a custom UPL (player file) by copying the contents of any other UPL and changing the names. You can edit UPLs with any standard text editor.

Also got rid of Domination in exchange of a control both points to score then resets 'Double Domination'? which is bad. Too bad they didn't remake any classic maps or am I missing something? Would've enjoyed Assault more if there was a better selection, was a favorite mode next to Domination and Team Deathmatch. I also cannot seem to get more than a few bots in every map, they seem to limit how many you can use depending on the map selection. Miss the large chaos that was UT TDM with 4 teams having gore splatter all over the place. Yes the bot edit is terrible this time around.

2k4 has 3 different ways to set up bots from the menu. The default setting is to use an average of the map's suggested player load. So if it says 4-10 players, you'll have 6 bots + yourself for a total of 7 players. You can change this to a number you specify, or to use a customized bot roster.

In addition, you can add even more bots with console commands.

addbots 4 addnamedbot Rapier

I'm not a big fan of 2k4's DOM either. But there are mods for both Domination (CDOM) and TDM4.

CDOM is included in this classic UT map pack. It includes most of the UT maps and bonus maps of every type, including assault.

I don't recall if it includes TDM4, but here's the CTF4 mod:
