Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Max Payne 2 won't run on Windows 7
Tried putting it in compatibility mode and it now launches at least but after loading it just crashes to desktop, no error or anything, it just exits.

Anyone got an idea how to fix it?

This worked for me (Max Payne 1&2):
From games library in Steam right-click game, select properties, browse to local files and right-click the May Payne exe file. Select Windows 98/ME compatibility mode. Then start game again from steam library (only works if you start the game from steam library)

I've tried all of the compatibility settings, and nothing works when trying to run Max Payne 2 (N.B. I don't have Max Payne 1).

Here are my settings for the laptop I'm running this on:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor: AMD E-450 APU w/ Radeon HD graphics

You guys probably have AMD/ATI cards and need to roll back your Catalyst drivers to version 12.6
Got it working. By updating to the latest version of the game which Steam doesn't do, and applying a cracked exe meant to just remove a CD check from the old CD version of the game.

What. The. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Hell.

I was having similar problems with a laptop with a GeForce GPU (also, i7 and Win7-64). I saw other posts where users were rolling drivers all the way back into the 190.00-ish versions. All I did was tell the NVIDIA Control Panel to use the Integrated Intel HD 4000 GPU, and it now runs flawlessly. I'm wondering if a similar solution could be used for AMD-based systems (I don't know much about AMD architecture).

I have tried most fixes and the only thing that worked was rolling AMD CCC driver to 12.6 for my HD 5870

Tried that; didn't work. I also tried using @Thrash Goat's suggestion, and it didn't work, either.

how do you update it?

There's some free modifications you can download online in other steam forums - I'm assuming these all have to do with AMD video cards right?

I updated mine to the newest Catalyst Control Center, downloaded and used a mod (I'll look for it when I get home), and ran it in windows ME compatibility mode (by right clicking on the exe and clicking properties file in steam/steamapps/common/MP2)

I reimaged my computer about a week ago, and MP 2 started working fine. That's a heck of a workaround if that's the only way to get this game to work. Then again, reimaging my computer helped me before with getting FEAR to work on Steam.

I had issues with MP1, but MP2 ran just fine on my Win7 PC. Try updating (or rolling back) video drivers?

I think MP1 has trouble with 64-bit OS'es... I seem to remember reading that.
