Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Game won't start
I click to play it, and wait....nothing happens. Click play again to see, and app is already running. Have had to go to processes in task manager to force close it, since it doesn't even appear in the applications ._.

These games won't run on multicore systems. You need to use ProcessLasso to automatically set the affinity of maxpayne 1 and 2 so that they only run on cpu0, so off check cpu1 through cpu3 for example if you're using a quad core system.

Or just view this solution too, it allows you to creat a command script to do the same thing as I mentioned above if you do not want to fork out for the Pro versio of ProcessLasso after the trial runs out in 30 days.

Hope this helps everyone, I just bought MaxPayne1&2 an hour ago, just finished fixing and playing them on Windows 8.1 64-bit

Thank you for the info, would it work on Windows 7 too?

Tried this on Windows 7, still getting the same error. It's an old game and the bundle for 1 and 2 cost like $3 so I don't mind waiting for a fix, but this still sucks.

Ok, this is for Windows 7

Hit the Start button, in the small window type MSCONFIG (you should see msconfig.exe) Hit Enter.

A window opens up, look for the Boot Options tab, goto Advanced Options.

Check the box for Number or Processors.

Select 2.

Apply it and reboot your machine.

You will temporarily be using ONLY 2 procesors and MAX PAYNE 2 Should work. (did for me).

Also, THIS IS THE FIX FOR the GREAT GAME "The Saboteur" fighting Nazis and tasteful nudity.

REMEMBER when you are DONE Playing these games get back into MSCONFIG and UNCHECK the PROCESSORS BOX!!!!

I have been helped so many times by you forum guy/gals, I wished to try to help with this one I had confirmed works.

ALSO REQUIRES NO DOWNLOADS OF PROGRAMS!!!!!

Seasons Greetings.

I have a quad-core processor and it gave me the same error. Before changing any advanced settings to trick my machine into thinking I have a dual-core, I just set the compatibility to Win 95 and I ran it as administrator. It works.

Hello friends i have a FIX for you work 100%

1. Run max payne 2 like every other game in Steam.
2. It is in background trust me you can see game is running in Task Manager.
3. Then go type ctrl + alt + delate and you will go to Task Manager
4. Select Max Payne 2 right click and expand
5. Now you have settings turn all to low and 800x600 rez all off and hit run the game :) enjoy now :)

Why I don't have "expand" when I select the game and right click?...

go to ':\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Max Payne' folder, right click 'maxpayne.exe', go to the Compatibility tab at the top of the new dialog box, check 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' and select 'Windows 98 / Windows Me'. I also selected 'Run this program as an administrator', but the compatibility mode has to be set first
