I played the tutorial first three levels died, returned to camp. I then quit out. When I opened the game again I got the intro sequence and the tutorial. For a while I figured that this was just how the game is... but after playing more I'm pretty sure it isn't. Whenever I quit and reload I lose everything and get the tutorial.
