Are the 'expert' options legitimate additions to gameplay enjoyment or just tedious extra screen searching?

The game seems to close before it's even started up but Steam says it's still running. I've opened the task manager and it says it's not, I've tried to uninstall it to re-install but it won't uninstall either? I'm very confused
