DiRT

DiRT

DiRT no longer available on Steam?
I just noticed DiRT has been removed from the Steam store, though I still have it in my wishlist... Like Dragon Age II (which I left on there to remind me to think bad thoughts about Origin), DiRT is listed withough a price, and the link redirects to the main page. Anyone know what's up with this?

I have it on my wishlist as well and noticed this. It does happen occasionally that games get taken down for a variety of reasons including keys running out or problems with the game itself (which allegedly Dirt has in regards to running on windows 7/8) Hopefully it gets put back up as I'd was hoping to grab it during the winter sale.

Sadly, the most like reason for the takedown is an expired license for some element of the game (cars, drivers, music etc.) - which would make it very unlikely that it will be added to the store again.

Sounds reasonable. Unfortunate, but reasonable.

Why the hell expired license affects sales of product created before license expired? License expirations should not affect sales. Its really stupid.

I have Dirt on steam (also had a retail copy, but gifted it to a friend for her birthday) and the game works flawlessly on my Windows 7.

I also have a copy of DIRT and it works very nice on Windows 7/8 (both the same way). The problem that this game has is not related to the OS, but to the processor's cores. There is a patch very simple to apply:

The fix consists in:

"Since the hyper-threading in our i7 CPU's mean that they are recognized as 8 core CPU's, which causes a conflict with the game.

The problem can normally be overcome by doing the following:

**Before going any further, please, be sure to make a backup of the files involved **

Replace the contents of [Steam install folder]\steamapps\common\DiRT\system\workerMap8Core.xml
with that of [Steam install folder]\steamapps\common\DiRT\system\workerMap4Core.xml

If you open the workerMap4Core.xml file and copy the contents, then open the workerMap8Core.xml, delete the existing contents, and then paste the information you have just copied this will replace the information.

Alternatively delete the workerMap8Core.xml file, make a copy of the workerMap4Core.xml file and then rename this new copy workerMap8Core.xml"

You can find the same solution here on Steam Foruns, but a little bit less descriptive. I've found this on the net, years ago and also published it on the Codemasters's Dirt forum. Unfortunately even Codemasters had decided to cut off most of their DIRT forum, one of the cuts were this fix that I've posted and were there for months.

This problem also may happen with GRID, which has the same solution, but this time CodeMasters has an official response: http://www.codemasters.com/us/grid/pc/faq/71/

I don't think that this is due to expiired licenses or any kind, it has more to do with Steam versus Codemasters deals, OMHO.

Anyway, this is a pitty. The game is great, one of the best and since then no game has come out to overcome it in terms of diversity.

It seems likely that an agreement between Steam/Codemasters would have been reached by now and the game returned to the store... Likewise, if the problem wasn't related to this specific game then it would stand to reason the many other CM games available would have been pulled. Just theory, but until we know that's all we've got. :)

Need steam edition... But thank you =)

Sad that they took it off Steam, it's by far the best DiRT game made. The other's are hardly worth bothering with.

With a few of the tweaks I got it running in Win7, saying this, when I play it the graphics seem .. well .. washed out .. over exposed .. have played with graphic settings and monitor to adjust but still seems out of whack. Agree with others as this is my fav DiRT game too.

What I always question is the lack of communication with customers on these changes. If its going out of sale then would be nice to know why. Wishful thinking I know :)

Amazon is all we have. Good thing I still have the copy, but overall, it's pointless to take the first game down. Codemasters should have extend the title a bit more, so that's just me who in favor, I don't know.
