Neverwinter

Is this based on Fourth Edition D&D at all?
I know the game Neverwinter Nights was originally based on third edition; I've been waiting to see a full game that uses a version of 4th ed so I can fool around with it. From some of the same wording it seems to at least draw from 4th edition, but what I'm really wondering is whether or not this is a direct pull or just a slight nod?

Anyone have any clue what I mean here?

Yes as far as I know this does borrow heavily from 4th edition D&D with its own little twists on some of the formulas...dont know if this answers your question or not but this is the info I gathered before playing

It may be "based" on it but it has very little to nothing to do with DnD since all classes are cookicutter and there is no ability to customize skills or abilities like in true DnD. You can only wear the type of armor that cookiecutter class lets you and use the type of weapons and the weapon style. If you want a dual dagger wielding wizard you are out of luck. It's very generic and disappointing to one looking for a DnD experience. It's more of a DnD in Name Only type game with lore reference and a few general ideas borrowed from DnD.

the game has been heavy streamline from the normal DnD rules, if looking for DnD rule game, DDO is the only one I know of.

This game is in the world of DnD, but dont play like a DnD game.

To a point some things are missing / clearly lacking and what nock.
but it is somewhat like 4E like how DDO was based on 3E. it was to a point.

The only thing this game takes from 4E is the names of powers, classes and mechanics. You can get a general idea of how a power is likely to work based on it's name, if you're familiar with it's 4E version, but that's about it. DDO and both NWN games were closer to their respective editions than Neverwinter is to 4th.
Neverwinter player a lot more like Diablo than anything else.

It is just a very slight nod. Don't go thinking thinking you can fool around with anything, as that all costs money (or months of grinding) and there is very little to fool around with anyway. You'll be using one build per character, and that build will be the same for everyone. Check out the forums for more info:

Blech, I'll be passing. The whole reason I played the original NWN nights is because I could essentially use it as a 3.5e simulator. Granted, not EVERYTHING made the translation, but it was pretty close. I'll just keep waiting for something like that to come out for 4e
