I think you may be right. I love the boardgame too, especially Ancients and the Napoleon versions of this mechanic. It would be amazing to see them come to life in the digital medium as well.

To be honest (and I'm saying this as an absolute fan-boy of Memoir44) Ancients is where the Command and Color system shines the most, it even reflects the way people thought about war at the time.

The adaptation to on-line play is, truly, great too. Because it speeds up play and allows those of us without interested players locally, to really get into all the various battles. Kind of fun to look at some of the youtube postings and see how folks play out the boardgame. Some of the fine points of movement and figuring dice rolls are much easier with the on-line game though.

But, then there are days when you play "Their Finest Hour" which is normally a STRONG card; and you fail to be able to activate even a single unit when your dice roll is so BAD.

My first Command & Color game - the old version is faster than any other C&C game (but remember to take out the ALL OUT ATTACK card if you play it) and while there are some improvements in the 150 years anniversary edition, I still prefer the original because of this.

Back to M44. I have limited online game experience; but I find the replay option is amazing too. Are there any other strategy online wargames that allow players to go back and endlessly review how their opponents and themselves conducted each battle? To me this is one of the most awesome educational tools I have encountered.

Cannot find the time to play all the awesome variations. Wait til you get access to the SFTF versions submitted by other players. There are dozens available at any one time!!!
Still the best. A real bargain when you weigh all the options available for play and replay and tournaments too!

I like how you every now and again remind us about it :)

So if this one is not a real great online experience, my question for the folks who are unhappy with the minor cost here is: WHAT OTHER ONLINE STRATEGY GAME IS THIS GOOD?

And, now we have another boardgame from the same designer just now shipping to kickstarter backers. Called, I believe, THE GREAT WAR. from what I have seen on boardgame geek most folks who have tried it find it to be a very good WWI game!!!
