should i get arma 3?

Im a native to squad and other tactical realism games. I also enjoy rollplaying and zombie survival. From what i understand this has all of those. the only thing that wories me is modding and the fact that it is 3-4 years old, i am not good with system managment and other computery things so i mainly worry that i will get confused by the technical stuff like maps and game modes. knowing this, is it a good game that i will enjoy, and is the community welcome to new players? also, do i need to buy all the expansion packs to play certain modes?

Many of those style of game modes you mention doesn't require any mods, just find a good looking server in the server browser and click Join. The mission will be downloaded.

Playing with mods is pretty easy, find the one you want on Steam Workshop and click subscribe. It will be automatically downloaded and updated. A lot easier now that ever before.

Generally not but if you want to play on the newest island "Tanoa" you need the Apex DLC. But for the others you will get nag screens if you try to use the dlc weapon or vehicle. You can still be a passanger in a DLC heli, and still join the very same servers, besides Tanoa.
