They are suicidal, crazy, and quite stupid, but they are charming in their own way. Keep repeating to yourself ... this game is a simulation environment, for human AI to act right they require the processing power of a human brain. We have it starting to show up on our desktops now, but at the moment it's rather busy rendering the rest of the game environment, not one individual soldier. :D
They said before release they are going to work as hard as possible on the AI.
They didn't fix it before because AI isn't top priority.
People handled it in Operation Flashp- (sorry, ArmA Cold War), Armed Assault, ArmA 2, and it's expansions, so they can sure as hell handle it in ArmA 3.
I hate it when people say "The community will fix it, heres "X" Mod, or "Y" Mod".
It makes me feel like people are trying to push people away from giving the actual game a try.
it's like saying Skyrim sucks without mods.
It doesn't.
The community brainwashed Skyrim people though, to rely on mods and making people think the mods make the game better, when they don't.
I know a friend who bought Skyrim, played it for 10 minutes, and then downloaded like 20 mods for it.
He barely played the damn thing and he already overloaded it with mods because "the community does a better job at making the game".
I agree, nobody seems to like base Arma. Everyone wants to mod the crap out of it as if the game is never good enough for most people.
Arma is a series that has benefited from mods in the past. Most notable is the ACE mod which in my opinion makes the game so much better.
I'm with you on all points. And will do the same, when possible. But don't forget ACRE. :)
Same with The Elder Scrolls games but at least we can mod them to our tastes. I praise the devs for allowing it.
The NPC's see you through grass and automaticaly detect where you are. These guys are also like olympic gold medal shooters they miss once or twice too give you the feel of being in combat then one shot you when you're half in cover. The UI is clunky going from prone to crouch takes too long. Reloading a weapon is silly i can't move once i start too reload or take an action.
I like the game but its hell frustrating with its clunky controls. A need button too wipe my arse in this game.
Didn't know about turning down the AI accuracy tho, I don't normally want an easier game so i never look for that kinda of thing.
For example, I use a fairly high AI Skill (this determines how they react, communicate, and engage targets); but a lower AI Accuracy. So this way they will still behave smart(er), but when they do engage they don't pop you in the head with one or two shots.
search for the *username*.Arma3profile in your My Documents folder, and edit it with a text editor like notepad. Find the difficulty you play on (Recruit, Regular, Veteran, Mercenary) and edit the precisionEnemy=x.xxxx to something lower. I use ~0.55 and it seems to work pretty good, giving me a fair ammount of time to find cover before getting shot
Sometimes they're totally bad-asses and sometimes they're dumb as f*ck. It's kind hard to find balance between both.
