Sidearms worth carrying
So when ever i have a sideam i feel like its just taking up weight, the times ive used them they feel useless and redundent and agasint CSAT.
9mm's are luaghably weak agasint CSAT, NATO and the AAF, they are only good agsint the synicate.same with the .45's though they are decent agasint some of the AAF.

i wish we could put SMG's in the sidearm slot as the Evo is tiny and can fit in a hoslter if you take the mag out, same with the vector smg and MP5.

Yes. Sidearms will save your life, sidearms are faster to equip than reloading. ALWAYS CARRY A SIDEARM.

There's been a few situations where a sidearm has saved me, because I ran out of ammo either completely or the situation didn't allow for me to reload in time.

Also, I think when you're in very tight spaces, having a pistol allows you to turn easier as opposed to a sniper rifle or any rifles in general.

So yeah, I think it's worth carrying even if there's very few situations it can save you in.

If I feel lacking in the ammo department for a rifle, and I cant get anymore ill take a sidearm with me.

if i feel like i cant take much ammo i'll just take the most common weapon used by hostiles so i can take their ammo

I always carry one, it has saved me and friendlies many times. Its a backup. Understand that realistically even level 2a body armor protects against those calibers. Also, what's the point of carrying a secondary weapon if it's not loaded?

I will probably regret it one day, but I never carry a sidearm.
If I do happen to do so, I will only keep one spare mag on me and I'll be making sure that the handgun itself is lightweight.

I got a question though. In the virtual arsenal, the .45s has less impact than the 9mms. Is this because they are measuring impact from speed? And how much better are the 45s compaired to the 9mms?

The 45.s are SLIGHTLY superior as far as damage goes, but you usually only see this in limb or non-centre mass (chest) hits on lightly armored or unarmored targets. It comes down to if you want that slight damage boost or if you want to just spam at them til they die :)

If you are fighting units wearing body armor, aim around it, or when it doubt, aim at the nose or face and pull the trigger till they fall over- no base game pistol in the game has enough power to punch through heavier Lvl3 / Lvl4 plate armor easily, so aim for parts of the body, like the face I mentioned, that have no armor.

Personally, I carry a pistol most of the time, unless I'm either lugging around a ton of weight anyway, or if (usually with a MG) dropping the pistol and spare mags means I can carry another box of MG rounds.

Remember that the pistol is a back-up weapon- kind of like a condom: you don't want to use it, but if you have to it needs to work or you suffer from a life changing event.

Usually I carry nothing more than 1 loaded mag and 1, maybe 2, spare mags- that should be plenty of ammo to let you pull it out if suprised, or to kill someone and take his rifle to use yourself.

Yes, in Arsenal the 'impact' takes speed into account, and the 45. is traveling slower than a 9MM round does, but in pistol ranges that's a moot point.

Someone else brough up the handling of the pistol? Yes, Arma does take this into account but it's usually not noticable unless you have a very heavy weapon, like a heavy sniper rifle or MMG. While pistols are the best handling weapons in the game, if you have a normal rifle that's usually just fine.

I would not recommend using things based on the Arsenal bars, go into editor or find a good testing mission and do some practice with the weapons yourself, the bars are sometimes be very wrong.

Always carry a sidearm. Personally I like the 4-five. Makes short work of anyone.

I always prefer the Rook or M9 Beretta. They have good handling, range, accuracy and decent enough stopping power.

Man, didn't expect so much help! Never knew about a bunch of those things you mentioned.

Thank you!

Out of all vanilla handguns, I love the Rook the most. Great rate of fire, lightweight, and can even take 30 round mags for those moments you are surprised and need to spam your enemy away. And since its a 9mm, if you really gotta shoot from a bit of a longer range- you don't need to lead your shots as much. An all around solid sidearm in my opinion.
