Solutions to Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What to do if the game won't start after I recently downloaded an update through Steam?
A: Please try exiting out of your Steam client and restarting it as a first step. If this does not clear the issue, try the steps below.

Q: What to do if the game is crashing on startup or the components did not install correctly?
A: First off, if the game has crashed on you, please open the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete (or equivalent) and terminate any instances of the game before trying to start it again.

Next, it's possible that some of your game files were corrupted during the download. Please try "verifying the integrity of your game cache", which will try to detect file corruption and redownload them as needed. Instructions are here:

For further steps, try navigating to this folder, assuming Steam is on your C: drive:
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\bastion\

And run the following files:
dotNetFx35setup.exe
dxwebsetup.exe
xnafx31_redist.msi

Lastly, please try closing other running programs if you're still having trouble starting the game. Some players have reported that this made a difference for them.

Q: I downloaded the Soundtrack or the Soundtrack Edition and can't seem to find the music files. Where are they located?
A: Assuming you installed Steam to your C: drive, check the following location:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\bastion\Supergiant Games - Bastion Original Soundtrack

Q: What to do if the game is crashing on startup or experiencing graphical corruption issues?
A: As a starting point, make sure you have the latest graphics drivers installed from your card's manufacturer. An outdated driver is the most common source of these types of problems.

Q: I have a multi-monitor, Eyefinity, or multi-graphics card setup, and the game is crashing or experiencing issues. What should I do?
A: Please try disabling this type of setup and see if it resolves the issue. We are investigating specific cases for possible updates.

Q: What do I do if I start the game up and the display is black but I can hear sound?
A: Try running the game using the -windowed and -noborder Launch Options (for instructions on how to do this, Ctrl + F "Launch Options" further down this page).

Q: What do I do if the game flickers in a distracting way while in full-screen mode?
A: Same as above.

Q: What do I do if I have a multi-monitor setup and the game is launching on the wrong monitor?
A: Same as above.

Q: What do I do if the game is launching at the wrong resolution and I am unable to adjust it to the correct setting in game?
A: Use the -x [value] and -y [value] launch options to force the game to run at the desired resolution.

Q: I changed the in-game resolution, how can I restore the original settings?
A: The game will auto-detect your monitor's proper resolution on start-up. If you change your resolution and the proper one is not available in the options menu, you can have it auto-detect again by deleting your profile here (exact location may vary):

Q: What should I do if the in-game text does not display correctly, showing code IDs instead of the intended text?
A: A small number of players have encountered this issue, which causes in-game text to not display correctly. Most of these cases were resolved simply by restarting the game.

If the problem persists, try using the launch option -lang en (assuming you are running the game in English)). To set Launch Options, right-click on Bastion in your Steam game library, select Properties, then click on "Set Launch Options..." Then start the game as normal.

Known Issues
- We're aware that for some users, the game is running at a locked frame rate that is less than the intended 60 fps. The "-nofixedstep" commandline parameter has resolved this issue for many players.

- Bastion provides native support for the Microsoft Xbox 360 controller for Windows. Other controllers may not be detected automatically. However, users have reported some workarounds you may want to try (though we cannot officially support them):
