What makes this game so popular?
Released for 5 systems if I'm not mistaken, this indie game is very popular. And is often reappearing in the promotions. So, I'm felling tempted to buy it, but before that I want to know why you like this game.

I don't own it but I have the exact same question so can anyone care to explain?

Its just really fun. The action is great, the art is amazing, and the narrator's voice is to die for. lol

Sure! It's a curious little title, all isometric hack'n'slash (although it switches freely to twin-stick shooter if you prefer ranged weapons). As a fighting game, it's okay. There's good enemy variety, and a good deal of skill needed at higher difficulties. But you shouldn't buy this game for its fighting. You should buy it because everything you do in the game, down to beaten enemies, exploring paths or just destroying scenery, is narrated by a man with chocolate-infused vocal cords. The story isn't really in cutscenes; it just sorta happens around you. It's a delightful piece of immersion. And you should try it. :)

I suggest trying the demo. I did so a while back and it gives enough feel for what the above people commented on to convince me to buy it.

It has a wonderful fantasy mixed with fallout feel to it. The narrator's great, the music's awesome. I find it addicting, but you may not. I bought it when it was half off, but now it's 75% off and around 3 bucks. You should DEFINITELY buy it because it's 3 bucks, an awesome game, and if by some chance you don't like it, you'll have only spent 3 bucks.
LOUD NOISES Dec 28, 2012 @ 5:25pm
I tried the demo and fell in love with it. The narrator has a voice I could listen to without ever getting tired of it, the story is interesting and the gameplay can be quite challenging sometimes. I like the variety of weapons and mini quests (like score x amount of damage with a certain weapon in one go) and I like how you can upgrade the weapons but choose how you want to upgrade them - for example, do you want it to reload faster, or damage a wider area? The drinks you unlock also help and I have fun choosing those.

The music is wonderful, it sticks in my head for a while afterwards, and it really adds to the setting. The environments are visually quite colouful and interesting too. It's generally just very entertaining and quite addictive, if you're tempted to buy it I'd suggest doing so now while it's in the sale, I doubt you'll regret it! There's potentially hours and hours of fun to be had with it, even if you complete it I daresay you'll want to complete the mini quests you get set eventually and try re-doing missions at various difficulty levels.

I just bought this game when it was on sale a few days ago and zipped through it, you feel attached to your character along with the other comments people have said (The soundtrack is amazing, art is BEAUTIFUL, and nararrator's voice is perfect) I found myself enjoying everything while playing, besides like 2 little optional challenged.

I think the top 5 things about this game are:

1) Value proposition. I paid $15 for it when it came out last year and after I completed it twice, got about 12 hours worth of play time, which is a good time/cost value proposition. Considering some $60 games can barely provide 8-10 hours of a single player story. At less than 4 bucks it's a steal.

2) Unique graphical style.

3) There's a narrator that narrates what you do every step of the way, and the voice acting is superb.

4) The soundtrack is AWESOME...seriously the music in this game is so, so good.

5) The game itself is fun and it's satisfying to build up your hub world and the weapon and ability upgrades are fun to experiment with.

It's a really great game, I recommend people at least try it. One of my favorite and most memorable games of recent memory.

The game is a complete expeirence that ties together basic elements in such a way as to make the game "art." That's the word I would choose to describe it. The elements on thier own arn't necessarily special (the combat, the narration, the stages, etc), but the sum total is worth experiencing, even if you end up not liking it. Not my favorite game of all time, but yeah, try it. NOW!

I loved everything about it except for the story, I mean, I like the story, but I don't think it's as powerful and engaging as it can be.

It's a compelling story, told in a unique way. The gameplay is, at points frustrating I admit but still, solid and the music... Oh man, the music.

This game is a solid game, with an amazing story, additive gameplay, and a meanigful out come. I suggest you give in and get it.

This game has a very deep story, that drags you in. It's very emotional and if you stay immersed throughout your playthrough, you become very attached to the story, it becomes almost personal. The constant narration may seem like a bore, but honestly it makes the game even better than it normally would be. The narrator's voice is crazy good. Also, the music is some of the best I've ever heard, ever. GIve it a try.

Bastion essentially invented the "active narration" concept where the narrator will comment on things that your character does as opposed to just scripted dialogue. The soundtrack also matches the game really well.

The story is incredibly well written and the characters are also developed realistically. Each of the weapons are designed to match a certain play style, and each one is very powerful in the right hands.

The game is so well made. The game starts on the easiest difficulty, and you ramp up the challenge whenever you want via optional idols. I.e., it can be as casual or as hardcore as you want. More recently, the developers put in No-Sweat Mode, which disables achievements but the player gets infinite continues so unskilled players can just enjoy the story. While you can't return to previous levels (on purpose, due to the game's story), important items you didn't find are "restored" in the Lost-and-Found. Finally, the inclusion of a New Game Plus mode is always appreciated.
