When the game reaches some endgame state (eg when the first player picks up Fren), the ending card is revealed. The ending card tells you the win condition of the game. There is no way to know what the win condition is before someone picks up Fren. The standard ending would still be included in the list of alternative ending cards, but you won't see it every time.
Random brainstorming:
-A boss appears when Fren is picked up! The boss must be killed (very difficult) to claim Fren, then same win condition as normal (get Fren back to castle)
-The player holding Fren rolls one die each turn. 1-3 take 1 gold from every other player. 4-6 take 2 gold from every other player. The game still ends when Fren is returned to the castle, but the winner is whoever has the most gold
-Deathmatch: Fren does not matter. First player to get 3 PVP kills wins. Any kills from before Fren was picked up/ending card revealed don't count.
etc etc
Actual real ending card from Talisman:
Horrible Black Void:
-You and all of your possessions are pulled into the Horrible Black Void, you lose the game!
-After a character encounters the Horrible Black Void, remove it from the game. Then draw another Alternative Ending Card and place it facedown on Fren for the next character to encounter.
There's a list of all Talisman alternative ending cards on this wiki here https://web.archive.org/web/20210815215113/http://www.talismanwiki.com/Category%3AAlternative_Ending_Card
If the card you selected has more damage than the other 3 you survive.
If it doesn't, the other 3 kills you.
if you haven't eaten a burger in the last 14 days you die of malnutrition.

also define what a turn in joey's castle actually means, so many of my friends were confused on whether it's when a player's turn ends or if it's the whole group's turns end
