You find yourself in a mysterious, curtain-clad room where darkness and silence reign. In the center of the room stands a large, square box that appears immovable. On top of the box, you see a placeholder frame with a golden horse head plaque in the middle. The box seems to be the main key to this room, but it doesn’t open immediately.
If you look around the room, you will see a curtain rod hanging down from the ceiling. By pulling this curtain rod, some of the curtains will open, revealing a hidden passage that leads you into an even darker room.
In the hidden room, there are several items you need to solve the mysteries of the room.
You find:
• Four “Mystery Box Plates”: Golden plates with mysterious horse icons.
• A postcard: Featuring an image of horses in a particular arrangement.
• A “Carousel Horse Chart”: A carousel horse chart with horseshoe icons.
• Two clipboards with detailed descriptions of four horses.
• A key, which will be needed for later use.
• A book titled “Horse Carousel”, containing important information about horse postures.
In this room, on the cabinet’s tabletop, you also find a golden horse head plaque. When you press this plaque, a cabinet door opens, revealing a gilded horse head bust.
Now take this horse head bust and place it in the placeholder frame on top of the box in the center of the main room. When you do this, the platform with the frame will slowly descend into the box, and a new platform will emerge, on which a horse carousel now stands.
To activate the horse carousel, you need to find the key, which is located in one of the drawers in the hidden room. Once you find the key and use it to start the carousel, it will begin to spin, and you are now ready to solve the next puzzle in the room.
(Decoder elements: the top part of the horse carousel, the horse carousel book, two clipboards with horse descriptions, and the top drawer of the drawer module)
1. Activating the Horse Carousel:
After finding the key (from Puzzle 1), you need to use it to start the horse carousel, which will now begin to rotate.
2. The Top of the Carousel:
Click on the top of the carousel to rotate it. When the top is set to a horse symbol (visible on the top), the corresponding button on the top will light up, and the horse matching the symbol will start moving up and down.
3. Lock Mechanisms on the Mystery Box:
When a horse is activated, a lock mechanism will appear at the top of the Mystery Box, matching the specific horse on the carousel. Each horse has a symbol on its saddle, which you need to identify the horse.
4. Identifying the Horses:
To identify the horses, you need to use the two clipboards that describe them, along with the descriptions of horse postures found in the horse carousel book:
• AGNUS = Rear (the horse stands on its hind legs)
• MAXIMUS = Jump (the horse is jumping)
• FALCON = Trot (the horse is trotting)
• POMPEII = Gallop (the horse is galloping)
5. The Horse Carousel Book:
Open the book from the hidden room.
In the book, you will find an overview of the four types of horse postures (symbol and description) as well as two pages with AGNUS and MAXIMUS on one side, and FALCON and POMPEII on the other.
Below each horse are three geometric shapes (circle, triangle, square) in a specific order:
o AGNUS = Triangle, Square, Circle
o MAXIMUS = Triangle, Circle, Square
o FALCON = Circle, Triangle, Square
o POMPEII = Square, Circle, Triangle
6. The Number Overview in the Drawer:
Pull out the drawer under the book, and you will find a number overview with four rows, where each row has a specific horse posture and three numbers on either side of the posture:
o 3 – 5 – 7 – Trot – 6 – 0 – 8
o 4 – 1 – 0 – Gallop – 9 – 2 – 4
o 2 – 6 – 8 – Rear – 7 – 5 – 6
o 0 – 7 – 1 – Jump – 9 – 8 – 3
7. Solution Process:
• When a horse is activated and moving, look at the horse’s saddle to figure out its posture (e.g., Trot, Gallop, Rear, Jump).
• Use the description of the horse postures in the book and clipboards to match the horse with its name and the corresponding sequence of geometric shapes.
• Look up the horse in the book and pull out the drawer to find the number row that matches the horse's posture.
• Read the three numbers under the horse in the number row for the identified posture.
• Use the figure sequence from the clipboard to arrange the numbers in the correct order, and use this code for the lock mechanism.
8. Solutions:
• Horse 1: Saddle symbol = Trot, Horse = FALCON.
o Figure sequence: Circle, Triangle, Square.
o Read code = 573.
• Horse 2: Saddle symbol = Gallop, Horse = POMPEII.
o Figure sequence: Square, Circle, Triangle.
o Read code = 429.
• Horse 3: Saddle symbol = Rear, Horse = AGNUS.
o Figure sequence: Triangle, Square, Circle.
o Read code = 682.
• Horse 4: Saddle symbol = Jump, Horse = MAXIMUS.
o Figure sequence: Triangle, Circle, Square.
o Read code = 938.
9. Lock Mechanisms Function:
The lock mechanisms work such that the bottom wheel is locked. You need to set the code for the bottom wheel by adjusting the outer dial. The top wheel’s setting will follow when you turn the outer dial.
When all lock mechanisms are correctly set, the puzzle will be solved, and the next step in the room will be activated.
How to solve the puzzle:
1. Use the Mirror: Look in the mirror on the Mystery Box. If you look closely, you will see four numbers placed around the periphery of the mirror image. These numbers correspond to the four carousel horses that serve as lock mechanisms.
2. Hint: If the numbers aren’t immediately clear, a hint will appear in the mirror after a while: “Truth Lies in the Reflection.” This indicates that you need to examine the mirror further to find the solution.
Solution:
• The four numbers you need, from left to right, are: 3 – 4 – 6 – 7. Set the lock mechanisms on the Mystery Box to these numbers.
How to solve the puzzle:
1. Movement of the Carousel Horses:
After solving the previous puzzle, the four carousel horses will begin to move. They rise to different heights on their poles and start rotating either left or right. The speed of their rotation also varies and can be either slow, medium, or fast.
2. Use the Carousel Horse Chart:
Use the “Carousel Horse Chart” (the chart) that you found earlier. This chart helps you decode the horses’ movements. For each horse, you need to use the combination of its height, rotation direction (left/right), and rotation speed (slow, medium, fast) to identify the correct horseshoe direction.
3. Find the Correct Horseshoe:
Once you’ve decoded each horse’s height, rotation direction, and speed, you’ll be able to match it with a specific horseshoe in the cabinet doors. Each horseshoe has a number, which is used to set the dial below each horse on the carousel.
Solution:
• Horse 1:
o Lowest height.
o Rotating left.
o Medium speed.
o Horseshoe pointing left = 3.
• Horse 2:
o Second-lowest height.
o Rotating right.
o Fast speed.
o Horseshoe pointing right = 5.
• Horse 3:
o Highest height.
o Rotating left.
o Slow speed.
o Horseshoe pointing upward = 4.
• Horse 4:
o Second-highest height.
o Rotating right.
o Medium speed.
o Horseshoe pointing downward = 6.
Final Step:
Once you have set the correct numbers below each horse, a drawer will open. In this drawer, you’ll find a key that must be used to unlock the horse figure behind the glass door at the top of the cabinet. Take the horse figure and place it in the Mystery Box console in the middle of the room to activate the next puzzle.
How to solve the puzzle:
1. Look in the Mirror: In the mirror reflection of the Mystery Box lid, you’ll see six horse symbols. At the same time, you will see six columns with horse symbols in the Mystery Box console in the middle of the room.
2. Match the Symbols: The task is to match the six horse symbols from the mirror with the correct symbols in each of the six columns in the console. Each symbol in the mirror corresponds to one of the vertical columns from left to right. To solve the puzzle, you need to set each of the six sliding handles on the console to the correct symbol in each column.
Solution:
Set the “sliding handles” in the following order from left to right:
• Column 1: Position 4
• Column 2: Position 2
• Column 3: Position 5
• Column 4: Position 3
• Column 5: Position 6
• Column 6: Position 2
When all the handles are correctly set, this step in the puzzle will be solved, and a drawer with a key will be opened. Insert this key into the Mystery Box to activate the next puzzle.
How to solve the puzzle:
1. Find the Correct Horse Symbol: With the movable board with the rotating horse, for each of the frames, find a horse symbol on the board that fits entirely within the frame.
2. Match with Cabinet Doors: Each of the six frames corresponds to an open cabinet door (two at the top, two in the middle, and two at the bottom). The open cabinet doors each display a number.
3. Set the Lock Mechanisms: Once you’ve found the symbol in one of the frames, find the corresponding number in a cabinet door. Use the number to set the lock dial that matches the corresponding horse symbol.
Solution:
Numbers displayed in the cabinet doors:
• Top left: 4
• Top right: 3
• Middle left: 2
• Middle right: 6
• Bottom left: 5
• Bottom right: 2
By combining the numbers in the cabinet doors and the symbols captured with the matching frames, the lock mechanisms in the drawer can be set as follows:
• Top row (three lock mechanisms; from left to right): 5 – 2 – 4
• Bottom row (three lock mechanisms; from left to right): 2 – 6 – 3
Once you’ve correctly set all the numbers on the six lock mechanisms, a new drawer will open. Here you’ll find a key that must be placed in the keyhole for the horse figure behind the glass door. Place the horse figure in the Mystery Box console in the middle of the room. This will activate the next puzzle in the room.
How to solve the puzzle:
1. Use the Postcard, which shows horses in different positions staggered from one another. The positions of the horses on the postcard must be matched with the four horses in the Mystery Box.
2. Set the Four Horses in the Mystery Box drawer using the adjustment mechanisms so that they match the positions of the horses on the postcard.
Each adjustment mechanism controls a specific horse:
• Top left = The horse in the first (front) lane.
• Top right = The horse in the second lane.
• Bottom left = The horse in the third lane.
• Bottom right = The horse in the fourth (back) lane.
Positions to be set:
• First lane: position 2.
• Second lane: position 4.
• Third lane: position 3.
• Fourth lane: position 1.
When the four horses are correctly set in their positions, the next step in the puzzle will be activated, and you will be able to continue solving the Mystery Box.
How to solve the puzzle:
1. Correct Positioning of the Horses: Once the horses are set to the correct positions, four symbols will appear in the mirror in a specific sequence.
o Have you removed the mirror cover? This step is essential for being able to see the symbols clearly.
2. Additional Mirror: A secondary mirror now unfolds over the first mirror.
o Did you notice it? This mirror shows the numbers associated with each horse symbol in the first mirror.
3. Setting the Lock Mechanisms: Each horse symbol has an associated number, which must be used to set the lock mechanisms in the drawer. To solve the puzzle, you need to match each symbol with its respective number.
o Each lock mechanism in the drawer is equipped with a specific horse symbol. Find the correct symbol and set the corresponding value.
Solution:
• Top row (two lock mechanisms; from left to right): 2 – 4
• Bottom row (two lock mechanisms; from left to right): 3 – 1
Final Step: When all lock mechanisms are correctly set, the drawer will open, where you’ll find a key. The key must be used to unlock the horse figure behind the glass door. Once you’ve removed the horse figure, it must be placed in the Mystery Box console in the middle of the room to proceed to the next puzzle.
How to solve the puzzle:
1. Letters and Roman Numerals:
When you press one of the four control elements, the rotating letter wheels stop at certain letters. You need to note the letters that appear by the arrow indicator (the centerline).
At the same time, a series of Roman numerals will briefly appear in the mirror. These numbers indicate the order in which the letters must be combined to form a word.
2. Find the Correct Word:
When the letters are combined using the Roman numerals, you will get four words, one for each control element.
The Roman numerals indicate the positions in which the corresponding letters should be placed.
For example, if the numerals are V-I-II-IV-III and the given letters are T-E-I-H-G:
- Place the letter that appears in the second position (I = E) first.
- Then place the letter in the third position (II = I) second.
- Next, place the letter in the fifth position (III = G) third.
- Then place the letter in the fourth position (IV = H) fourth.
- Finally, place the letter in the fifth position (V = T) last.
When arranged according to this order, T-E-I-H-G becomes E-I-G-H-T, forming the word "EIGHT". Repeat this method for each control element to find the correct word. This step ensures the letters are placed in the right order, as guided by the Roman numerals.
Solution for each control element:
• Control Element 1:
o G – I – H – E – T (the Roman numerals III-II-IV-I-V give: E, I, G, H, T)
o Solution: 8
• Control Element 2:
o N – E – E – V – S (the Roman numerals V-II-IV-III-I give: S, E, V, E, N)
o Solution: 7
• Control Element 3:
o E – R – H – T – E (the Roman numerals IV-III-II-I-V give: T, H, R, E, E)
o Solution: 3
• Control Element 4:
o T – E – I – H – G (the Roman numerals V-I-II-IV-III give: E, I, G, H, T)
o Solution: 8
3. Set Values on the Lock Mechanisms:
When you press a control element, the carousel horse will indicate a specific horse symbol on top of the carousel with a beam of light.
In the outer periphery of the mirror, you can find the four indicated horse symbols matched to the lock-setting dials in the cabinet. The placement of the dials is as follows:
• Top left
• Bottom left
• Top right
• Bottom right
The values from the control elements must be set as follows:
• Horse symbol top left: 8
• Horse symbol bottom left: 7
• Horse symbol top right: 3
• Horse symbol bottom right: 8
Final Step:
Once you’ve set the correct values on the lock mechanisms, a drawer will open, where you’ll find a key. Use this key to unlock the horse figure behind the glass door. Once you’ve removed the horse figure, place it in the Mystery Box console in the center of the room. The horse carousel will now slowly descend into the Mystery Box.
From the Mystery Box, a projector will now rise. Press the power button on the projector to activate it. The projector will begin to show a projection of a forest in the air. The Mystery Box will sink deep into the floor, revealing an underworld below. A mass of small, bubbling ball-like elements whirl around the projection. The forest is mystical, and something magical happens: A carousel horse becomes visible inside the forest projection. A platform now rises, with a series of switches arranged in four rows.
1. Control Elements and the Carousel Horse’s Gaze Direction:
When you press one of the four control elements, the carousel horse in the projection changes its gaze direction. To decode the number in this position, stand on the floor icon in the room and make eye contact with the horse. The number is formed by the whirling ball-like elements around the projection, and it will consist of two digits.
2. Nixie Tubes and Switches:
Each time you press a control element, a specific row of switches on the control panel lights up. At the same time, the nixie tubes display digits next to each switch in the illuminated row. Identify the two digits formed by the whirling balls and match them with the two nixie tubes in the illuminated row. Now turn on the two switches corresponding to the digits you’ve found.
3. Solution for Each Control Element:
Here is the solution for each of the four control elements:
• Control Element 1:
o The carousel horse looks back to the left = perspective number: 95
o The top row lights up: 0-8-6-3-5-7-2-9-1-4
o Switches to turn on (from left): 5 and 9
• Control Element 2:
o The carousel horse looks forward to the right = perspective number: 86
o The second row from the top lights up: 9-8-0-4-7-1-5-3-2-6
o Switches to turn on (from left): 8 and 6
• Control Element 3:
o The carousel horse looks forward to the left = perspective number: 23
o The second row from the bottom lights up: 3-7-9-1-4-8-0-6-2-5
o Switches to turn on (from left): 3 and 2
• Control Element 4:
o The carousel horse looks back to the right = perspective number: 74
o The bottom row lights up: 5-9-1-8-6-2-3-7-4-0
o Switches to turn on (from left): 7 and 4
4. Overview of the Switches:
Here’s how the switches should be set for each row:
• Row 1 (top): Off – Off – Off – Off – On – Off – Off – On – Off – Off
• Row 2 (second from top): Off – On – Off – Off – Off – Off – Off – Off – Off – On
• Row 3 (second from bottom): On – Off – Off – Off – Off – Off – Off – Off – On – Off
• Row 4 (bottom): Off – Off – Off – Off – Off – Off – Off – On – On – Off
5. Completion:
Once all the switches are correctly set, the Mystery Box will sink into the floor. The projection and the ball-like elements will float up towards the ceiling and slowly disappear. Then, a curtain in the room will open, and a blue portal will become visible. Press the golden horse head plaque on the cabinet’s tabletop to open the door. This concludes the escape room experience.
My handles wouldn't move...
