Can't use

Whenever I pick royalty it shows up as null and if I try and press play the menu vanishes and it's just the background with nothing happening

I experience the same bug, it seems going into options and clearing the character cache fixes it, at least for that session.

Yeah I also figured that out, but only for that session. Wonder if there's a permanent solution

trystant, go to the main menu, then to options, then clear character cache should be near the bottom
