4 Sided Coin - Review by Endless
★★★ 3/5: A fun and creative ride

4 Sided Coin is a medium-sized campaign packed with some interesting tricks that display a nice show of creativity with the way they are executed in small set pieces across the maps. It feels properly implemented while still retaining the charm of an indie creator, particularly the voice acting at the end haha. While it is not something you would expect from a pro voice actor, it does add a special kind of value and kuddos for the effort.

4 Sided Coin does suffer a bit from its own good, tho. The initial map is a solo-type kind of play where you are alone in a small map trying to find the exit. It is properly balanced at least, and doesn't make use of special infected that can ruin your game without the support of your team mates. However, if you are playing just with bots, it can be a slightly less enjoyable experience due to the way the pathing works in the game. Using a bot AI mod doesn't really help with this, and you just have to cross your fingers the bots don't ♥♥♥♥ up.

Most of the game is relatively simple, but there's some madness sprinkled here and there. The final map in particular makes use of 4 tanks, 3 at the same time, which is just stupidly insane in Expert difficulty, and barely manageable in lower difficulties. Once again, a case that will highly depend on you playing with bots or humans.

My main problem with this campaign, however, is the rather maze-like, almost Wolfestein 3D quality it has to it during the first maps in the closed areas. The layouts are confusing, have too many dead ends and the right way is not properly marked for you. You will get lost, and will have to roam around for a bit until you accidently stumble upon the exit. Flow and speed is important in a game like L4D2, and some of these maps feel slower than they should..

Visual-wise, the maps are okey. The could benefit a lot from more detailing, but there wasn't anything particularly ugly or improper, and while it feels flat at times (especially the last map and the office areas) it does help with performance.

Overall, it is a fun mapset that I don't regret playing at all, but due to its pathing issues, maze-like nature and rather eh visuals, I wouldn't play it again, probably.
