Review of Mod and Suggestions, 8/11/23
Hallo there! So, I just finished a play through of the mod, going from the year 2200 to 2252, and wanted to give my thoughts on all of it, especially some suggestions and such that I think could improve the mod and such.

-Portraits

First off, I want to talk about the portraits. While adding more portraits to the witch species is already on the agenda list and will likely be expanded drastically, there's a few portraits I think should actually be removed from the list. To be specific, 3 portraits, the two portraits of Luz and the one of Philip. The reason I think these three should be removed is because of the fact that they're human, and neither witch nor demon, therefore not fitting into the overall theme of the species. Not to mention, in-game, it was a tad bit awkward to see two Luz's on the council besides Belos. XDD Not to mention, when it comes to adding more portraits, definitely add some background characters into the mix, those will make the portrait list the absolute GOAT! Not to mention, perhaps even incorporate some of the characters from Moringmark's comics into the portrait list?

-Expand the Magical Trait.

I definitely feel like the magical trait needs to be expanded besides the fact that it reduces consumer good upkeep. In fact, I would suggest turning it into a super trait much like Aquatic, Lithoid, Necrophage, etc. After all, I would think having the ability to cast magic and do all these fancy things would do more than just reduce boredom. XD For example, I would suggest adding some buffs to the military and ground troops, like increasing army damage, morale, collateral damage, things like that. Not to mention, small buffs to things like resource output, a small reduction to pop upkeep, a small habitability buff, along with leader lifespan(cause of things like healing magic). Not to mention a small bonus to happiness, and overall just things like that! Of couse, don't have to take everything from this list, but it's just some ideas!


-Change the Name of the Boiling Isles Class Planet.

My logic for this, we've seen in show that there is a lot more to the Demon Realm besides the Boiling Isles, and it would be a bit meh to classify an entire planet based off of a single landmass. After all, don't want to be naming Continental Worlds, North America Class planets. XD But my suggestion? I would suggest naming it something like Boiling Ocean World , with a description along the lines of something like "Rocky world with a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere and a significant hydrosphere. Large boiling oceans cover more than 90% of the surface, with scattered landmasses and dead titanic-scaled lifeforms dotted along its surface making up the remaining percentage. The magic-like essence infused within these long dead titans are not only said to be the reason behind the planet's unusually scolding oceans, but the reason for the planet's fauna taking on incredibly esoteric appearances and evolutionary properties." I also recommend taking on a revamp like this because I noticed multiple Boiling Isles class planets popping up in the galaxy. By the time the Day of Unity had arrived, I had 2 or 3 Boiling Isles class planets within my borders, and there were likely many more of them out there. Name them something like Boiling Ocean Worlds, and not only does it make it much more general, but it gives the Titans a much more Interstellar presence throughout the galaxy...cause lets be honest, there's no way those Titans were staying restricted to the atmosphere of a planet with their size. I'm pretty sure they're space born lifeforms like the Tiyanki, or at least that's my theory on them. XD

-TOH Origins Not Spawning Me on the Correct World Class.

This is more so just a bug report, but yeah. The Owl House Origins was just spawning me on whatever planet I chose in the planet class selection screen rather than the intended Boiling Isles class planet, which I'm sure was your intention? But yeah, just wanted to let you know that!

-Expand the TOH Origins

This one I'm a bit uncertain on, but I just have a feeling that something is kinda...m i s s i n g from the origins as it is. Like hmmmm...perhaps give it some more story and such and other effects such as a small little storyline on figuring out the origins of the Titans as you venture out into the stars and explore your local solar system? Or perhaps the planet can start off with an archaeology dig site that explore the remnants of the Titans across the planet and trying to find their origins? Perhaps something to even do with the ancient history behind the Titans and the Archivists? Or overall just something that gives some more TOH story events and such. Or perhaps, maybe have it be a bit like the Syncretic Evolution origin, where you could then seperate Witches and Demons into two seperate species and portraits and such! This one is kinda just more broad and up to your interpretation, cause even I'm a little uncertain. But, it does kinda lead into my next suggestion.

-Play Around More with the AU Concept.

As the mod currently stands, we have the events of The Owl House taking place in the 2200's rather than the 2000's, so you know what I say? Go crazy with the concept! Technically, we wouldn't have the same line up of characters, since it's taking place in the 2200's, but AU's don't have to make sense and that never stopped anyone! :winter2019joyfultearsyul: But basically, as it stands, Belos stands at the helms of an advanced Interstellar empire with an equally as advanced society to match it, so when it comes to the main story events I would try and incorporate this fact! Like, the Coven Day Parade being marked with not only the usual celebrations, but also a global display of the might of the Emperor's Coven with the fleets visiting and hovering above multiple cities across the Demon Realm and putting on displays of celebrations. Like, the face reveal of Belos being marked with a flyby of the fleets and things like that! Or even incorporate base Stellaris lore into events, like with Luz being from Earth that's ruled by the United Nations of Earth, and is equipped with a bit more knowledge than usual due to being from an Earth that's in the far future. Who knows, perhaps with that knowledge of more advanced technologies she could craft some fancy little trinkets and machines that could help improve the quality, effectiveness, and lethality of her glyphs and magic casting abilities? An ingenuity that impresses Philip/Belos even more so than he already was in the base show. Not to mention, perhaps in Hollow Mind, Luz could question him and his motives even more so than she did in the base show, especially knowing exactly how Humanity from the 23rd Century would stand on his actions and attempts at genocide because of some old outdated Puritan train of thought. That's just some things I've thought of! Oh yeah, not to mention perhaps have Blight Industries be a major player in the military industrial complex that could help gives your troops and fleets some small little buffs and such. But, I'm sure you get what I'm aiming at with this whole concept here, explore the Stellaris side of it more! Oh yeah, and perhaps have some kind of mechanic where local alien empires can start getting a bit suspicious of just what exactly the Day of Unity is, and could start prying into you a bit more. Ultimately, probably leading up the whole mechanics of Become the Crisis where the galaxy(Or at least parts of it) would pretty much declare war on you and you have the defend yourself until the Day of Unity arrives.


-Expand the Namelists and Localization.

This is definitely a big factor that I think needs some work. The namelist as it is, is a bit lacking I would say. For one, a lot of the names for characters and potential leaders are pretty much just the names of people from the show, which can definitely get a bit conflicting when you have a ton of leaders and they're just all names of some really important people in the show, especially peeps that would likely want nothing to do with Belos and the Emperor's Coven. My suggestion? I would pretty much just pull up a random name generator for things like witch names, elf names, and things like that and put them into the current name list! I would also encourage ya to come up with some of your own witchy names and such! Like, some that I've made up for an Owl House Hearts of Iron IV mod I'm working on with a team is things like, Mavern, Fenoria, Stariel, Ridalyn, and things like that! I've also found that Old Germanic names kinda fit with some of the names and the style they're in that we've see in the Owl House! For example, we got ones like Alaric, Auda, Audowin, Bernhard, Byrnhildr, Colobert, Dagobert, Cerdic, etc etc. Big lists of names to choose from that sound kinda witchy! Also, Celtic also has some pretty good potential names as well! Not to mention, for last names, I would also suggest things like, Brightstar, Lulamoon, Albatross, Brightflame, Barkridge, etc. As for planets, definitely need some more planet names besides the ones that are in game at the moment. Could be some names you make up, like something like the Twilight Isles, Lumeria, Bloodsdale, Aetheria, Marrowsville, and things along the lines of that! Once again, I would probably just suggest looking into some things like fantasy name generators, and come up with some spooky sounding names that would match with the Demon Realm, kinda like how I just there! Could even be some references to the Elder Scrolls through things like, the Shivering Isles or something! In fact, that might be a pretty good place to look!

-Legendary Leader's Reactions to the Day of Unity

This one might be a bit more complicated, but since I played my Emperor's Coven with the Xenophile trait(Belos manipulation go brrrrrr) I ended up getting Astrocreator Azaryn as one of the leaders in my empire, and as I was nearing the end of the playthrough, I could help but imagine what some of the interactions between her and Belos were like, especially near the end when the Day of Unity's true intentions became clear. The dynamic between the two no doubt would have been interesting, with Azaryn wanting to create and persevere life, and Belos wanting to destroy it all for the safety of humanity. One specific interaction I couldn't help but imagine was something like, Azaryn confronting Belos about the Day of Unity once she finds out what it really entails, whether that be through her own research and interaction with Luz, Eda, and the main cast, or her finding out ON the Day of Unity. Either way, I could totally see Belos saying something like "You know, one time you said to me, that to escape death, sometimes one must take the life of another. I couldn't have agreed with you more, and that is precisely what I'm doing here. For eons these witches and despicable creatures from this realm of existence have threatened my kind, stepped into our realm and threaten the very existence of my species with their evil and wicked ways. I will do anything to save humanity from evil, even if it means the annihilation of this galaxy. Now, do me a kindness...and go find a hole to wither away in..." Or something along the lines of that. XD There are plenty of legendary leaders to create some interesting interactions with, and I personally think it would be cool to see some kind of endgame interaction with them before the end of everything. Besides, with a more story oriented mod, this is definitely something that could spice things up some more!

-Conclusion

Overall, mod definitely has a TON of potential! Whether it just be with the portraits and creating a witch species separate from the main story(In fact, perhaps even that could be an option with an origin? A witch species that is liberated from the Coven System and an origin that follows the main ending of the Owl House?) Or the potential for genociding the galaxy in an entirely new and different way! :D Definitely has a lot of potential for bringing in all sorts of story and interesting things into the realm of Stellaris! Not to mention, perhaps you could even bring the Archivists into play at some point as some mid/endgame crisis? :0 Who knows! Either way, it's definitely full of potential, but definitely needs some refining! But as an avid Owl House fan, I can't wait to see where this takes off to, and these are all my suggestions I can think of at the moment! If I think of anything else, I'll be sure to add it! I hope ya enjoyed this, took me all day to write this out. XD

Ahh I'm new to steam community and didn't notice this till now xD Those are interesting ideas and i will definitely look into them when i have time :steamthumbsup: . This is my first mod so a lot of stuff are actually just random and made just to see what i can make with modding. A lot you mentioned were in my original plan, but i ran into countless technical issues (I have literally no previous modding experience except a simple mod for Endless Sky which was fairly simple. Just making the portraits work properly took 3 full days lol) about the collector and archivists i originally had an idea for a crisis but didn't figure out how to do that xD The boiling isles planet is a failed attempt and i forgot to remove it... the origin is assigned to oceanic planet from the start( i will try to actually make it properly tho) the time issue is kinda a compromise to the game mechanics (whats the fun when a dozen events happen all together in a year) and i'm not a first language english speaker so most of the events were copied from the wiki... also I made this mod back in 3.7 so i'm really confused about the new legendary leader stuff and the leader system.The name list idea is definitely interesting. About the portraits, i might make a new species group specific for witches and make some slight modifications. Morningmark's work are awesome but it might be some difficulties photoshoping them out... For the origin, its mainly for my own testing purposes (i'm still quite new to this game, especially when i try roleplaying immersion focused empires i tend to fall behind ai, so i need some bonuses to get a head start...i play rogue servitors well tho) but i will try to make it more interesting.

No problem at all! I've been busy these past few days, so I'm also just now seeing your response! But thank ya! I'm glad you think they're all great ideas and such! But no problem at all, I know it's your first mod and all for Stellaris, but I didn't think it was pretty much your first mod in general! In that case, I totally understand said technical issues, came across plenty of those when I first started modding, it definitely can be a bit tricky!

But I hear ya! I don't really know too much about Stellaris modding(most of my knowledge is HOI4 modding) so I don't know how one would go about creating a crisis. Also, really? The Boiling Isles planet was something you forgot to take out? Oh okay! I was definitely curious about that, especially since you mentioned it in the description if I'm not mistaken? :0 But, glad to see you're getting that all fixed up! Looks like ya took my suggestion on that? :0 And no worries about that, I didn't really pick up on that many spelling errors or typos, so pretty good!! But most of the events were copied from the wiki? Hmmm, in that case, could get some help when it comes to translation and such? Or do your best to write some in english, and then have some peeps help fix it up a bit! Or get the general idea of an event down and have some peeps write it out. Also, there's some tutorials out there on how to photoshop out characters and such! Hearts of Iron 4 portrait modding has some good tutorials on that when it comes to working with the software! But I like that idea though! Portraits specific for witches and such! Interested to see those slight modifications! But no problem with that! I getcha there, Stellaris can be a bit of a game to learn and get good at, especially with little to no mods. But of course! Do watcha can, big mods aren't built in a day! XD
