Having the same same issue and cannot figure anything out

Make sure both players have the Multiplayer for CE installed, it solved the problem for me! ;)

I'm having a similar problem. Both me and my friend get the loading screen, the progress bar fills all the way, and then I (the host) lose connection. No black screen though.

it has to do if the loading. if the host loads too fast it will crash. to help solve this make sure you both have the game install on a ssd or both on a hard drive.

for ssd if one has a mdot 2 then you both need to have it on a mdot2 sdd

I have had this problem across a couple of the games, but mainly halo 1 since launch. If one player has a black screen, but the other player gets a loading screen this will cause a desync error between the players. Try having both players restart their computers before and close any unnecessary programs before starting halo.
