Crusader Kings III

Harem Politics
Suggestions
I just tested this mod with the Super Compatch MPE playset and everything works fine with 867 Abbasids except the -1000 marriage acceptance when trying to marry a secondary wife, that issue comes either from “love, marriage, family”, « relationship of weddings expanded” or “concubinage-a mechanical overhaul”. Also the offer concubine character interaction as well as request concubine and request truce concubine doesn’t work. And the Favor level of each member of the harem doesn't appear when clicking on the Imperial Harem view, however character interactions to boost the favor work fine.

I see that the recent updates have improved the Muslim side of harem politics. If you want further help on the matter I am happy to provide sources for historical realism since I am doing a masters degree in medieval Islamic society and I am well informed on the subject.

If you can, could you please make so that when playing alongside the mod “concubinage-a mechanical overhaul” that the effects of the mod don’t apply to Muslims (such as children of concubines have conditional inheritance, very out of place in Islamic societies)?

I also have 2 quick suggestions, the first one ties to “concubinage-a mechanical overhaul”

That mod adds the concubine trait for all concubines. This got me thinking that your mod could also have concubine specific traits as well. I suggest you add the trait ‘Umm Walad’ to concubines of Muslim rulers who fall pregnant. As under Islamic law these women were treated better than other jariyat and closer to wives. In the base game this could be a newly added trait and if integrated with concubinage a mechanical overhaul it could simply replace the concubine trait.

My second suggestion is to remove or modify the child of concubine trait for Muslims. A Quick research will reveal that the overwhelming majority of Muslim rulers in the post-Umayyad period were children of concubines and marriage became less and less important for Muslim rulers over time (thinking about this I realize that I should also suggest you to remove the too few spouses prestige debuff that Muslim rulers currently have).

I am sorry if that is too much but as someone who often plays Islamic rulers. The lack of an imperial harem for the time period breaks immersion and your mod has the potential to become a solution to all the innacuracies concerning marriage and concubinage in vanilla.

Hi! Thanks for posting it. I want to release some more Muslim content this year 😄

On Super Compatch MPE, I understand the issues. But it includes over 20 mods, so making my mod compatible with all of them isn’t something I can realistically take on. I recently did a patch for RICE and am currently working on compatches for AGOT and The Fallen Eagle, which are already taking up a lot of time. At least for the near future, I can’t work on them.

As for the traits in Concubinage – A Mechanical Overhaul, that mod handles its own trait assignment. My mod doesn’t add new traits and doesn’t touch the code that determines when they’re applied, so that is something outside my scope.

On Umm Walad, I plan to keep changing the requirements for Islamic concubines in future updates to make them more historically accurate. However, I prefer to avoid adding traits for relationship states in general. I think they can be messy.

As for the “Too Few Spouses” penalty. It appears hardcoded, but I’ll double-check to see if it can be overridden.

And lastly, I’m know that CK3 doesn’t currently let succession depend on a child’s mother, which is highly for Norse, Indian and other cultures. Immersive Concubinage addresses that issue. However, the addition of elevated concubines adds another “rank” for the harem in my mod. This would require a complex system to integrate with consort promotion/demotions, so I’ve been reluctant to do a compatch.

However, in All Under Heaven DLC, Paradox is changing concubinage a bit and hinted that children of concubines will be moved back in succession. If that becomes a culture-sensitive system, It’ll be easier to integrate it in my mod. I look forward for what the devs will show us.

You could send me a DM here or on Discord (user: jadevisions) so that we can talk about more Muslim content 😄
