Kyle's Review of "Dead Before Dawn: Uncut" - 2/5
A good remaster of an iffy campaign. 2/5 stars.

Dead Before Dawn: Uncut is a mostly faithful restoration of the original version of the campaign, and I do mean original — the 0.9 release for L4D1 that you can't easily download anymore. This 6-map campaign* from 2009 had infamously frustrating fetch quests in Map 5 that were so widely hated the entire map got removed a year later. Now that I've finally played through the whole thing, I understand why.

This mod certainly isn't bad — it's still Dead Before Dawn, and the restoration team did a good job updating this campaign for L4D2. However, navigating the mazes of Map 5 ruins the whole thing for me, and additional frustration comes from excessive zombie spawns and having to wait for NPCs to finish their lines before you can progress.

Overall, this is a great historical preservation effort, but it's not exactly fun. The director's cut and extended edition are both leagues ahead, and even Dead Before Dawn Too from 2010 is a better experience.

* CORRECTION: The very first DBD release was actually a 5-map campaign because the finale wasn't finished until later. The rest of my review stands.
