The Seven Ages of Man (hard)
Wollo  [developer] May 31, 2022 @ 11:59pm
Hints and Solutions
First Age: The Infant

Puzzle 1: Poem
Hint 1: The poem in the book contains the items that need to be counted.
Hint 2: Find something sparkling on the horse.
Hint 3: Find something that keeps the child safe and trapped in its bed.
Hint 4: Find color-coded sounds.
Hint 5: Find stars the child can see from its bed.
Solution: There are 6 silver adornments on the horse's saddle, eight bars on each side of the bed, 7 colors on the xylophone, and 8 stars visible from the bed (inside the bed and on the ceiling). The solution is 6878

Puzzle 2: Xylophone
Hint 1: You want to strike 8 notes, as instructed on the paper in the cupboard. Check its front and back.
Hint 2: First, strike the colors you see (the colors the words are written in), then the colors you read (the words)
Solution: The colors the words are written in are red, orange, yellow, green. Then, the words are orange, red, yellow, orange. Hit the xylophone with the mallet eight times in that order.

Second Age: The Schoolboy

Puzzle 1: Numbers
Hint 1: Find which sign must be active to solve the equation. Read numbers with no operators between them as one number.
Hint 2: You only need two types of operators.
Solution: Disable all / and + operators, leave all - and * operators. 333-3*3*33-3 = 333-297-3 = 33
Alternative solution: 333-333+33
Alternative solution: 33/33*33+3-3

Puzzle 2: Pattern
Hint 1: Rotate all rotatable symbols so that all circles of the target symbol are covered
Hint 2: Concentrate on the 8 circles directly surrounding the red circle.
Solution: https://imgur.com/sAKNMCo.png

Puzzle 3: Rebus
Hint 1: Combine the images into one word. Eliminate the third letter from each word
Hint 2: The word you are trying to make is "Monastery"
Solution: Mo(o)n + As(s) + Te(a) + Ry(e) = Monastery

Third Age: The Lover

Puzzle 1: Sheet Music
Hint 1: Play the tune with the green play icon. Place the notes according to what you hear.
Hint 2: If you're not musically inclined, check the ladder.
Hint 3: Each number on the ladder tells you where on the scale each note must be.
Solution: https://imgur.com/X74cmAS.png

Puzzle 2: Sonnet
Hint 1: You probably know the first line of this sonnet at least. The rest can be derived from the associated colors and attributes.
Hint 2: Each line compares one attribute of a woman to another thing.
Solution:
Eyes / Sun
Coral /Lips
Snow /Breasts
Hairs / Head

Fourth Age: The Soldier

Puzzle: Battlefield
Can't get out of the trench? Just look up!
Hint 1: Think of this as a very simple point-and-click adventure. Explore all scenes. Interact with objects and people. And look down occasionally.
Hint 2: Explore the cart.
Hint 3: Bravery is not the best option.
Hint 4: Not every item is useful.
Hint 5: The order in which you do things in locations are: camp, cart, enemy, refugee hideout, trench, camp.
Solution:
Camp: take shovel, try to flee on horseback
Cart: examine chest, take food
Enemy: flee into the bushes
Refugee hideout: give food to refugees, take letter, listen to letter
Trench: dig in ground with shovel, take gold
Camp: give gold to guards, flee on horseback.

Fifth Age: The Justice

Puzzle 1: Number lock
Hint 1: Figure out the four numbers from the arrows.
Hint 2: For each color, follow the arrows to form lines. There are arrow on and below the benches.
Hint 3: Split arrows are used for both their colors.
Solution: 4739

Puzzle 2: Logic grid
Hint 1: If you've never done a puzzle like this and don't understand what to do, there are many intructions out there for "logic grid puzzles" or "elimination grids". For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_eTNclIKbQ
Hint 2: There is not much help to give here. All hints are very straightforward.
Hint 3: I would never have you kill a cat. After all, what's wrong with a litte witchery?
Solution: https://i.imgur.com/5IS55jL.png

Sixth Age: Old Age

Puzzle 1: Number locks
Hint 1: Each piece of paper corresponds to one lock.
Hint 2: The way the papers are numbered point to which aspect of the painting gives you the number.
Hint 3: Roman and latin numbers are used to reference the act and scene of each painting.
Hint 4: Hand-written numbers are hidden in the painting.
Hint 5: The last lock requires additional items. They are in the second shelf from the right.
Hint 6: The Arrows tell you where to start. follow the nodes to determine the order of the paintings.
Solution:
First lock: Identify the depicted paintings, following the node. For each painting, take the scene number. Solution: 33113
Second lock: Identify the depicted frames (lower border), following the node. For each painting, take the act number. Solution: 31154
Third lock: Identify the depicted paintings, following the node. For each painting, take the number hidden in the painting (it's on each depicted character). Solution: 24973
Fourth lock: Find the plaque that contains the 3 letters in succession, following the node. For each plaque, find the stencil that reveals a number word when applied. Solution: 79849

Puzzle 2:
Hint 1: Attach the sonnet portions on the door in the correct order.
Hint 2: A sonnet consists of three quatrains (four lines) where the first line rhymes with the third, and the second with the fourth. It ends with a couplet, two lines that rhyme.
Hint 3: Take your time to understand the poem. If you do (and respect the rules above), there is only one order that makes it meaningful.
Solution:
No longer...
Give warning...
Nay, if...
That I...
O, if...
Do not...
Lest...

Seventh Age: Oblivion
Hint: Stop reading, there is no puzzle here. Just watch the inevitable end and mourn the fleeting nature of human existence. And then turn off the computer and go hug someone.

I think that puzzle 2 in the fifth age is totally illogical when it comes to conclusion and deduction. I cannot recognize any sense or system in that puzzle. For instance: What gives you the idea that the goose alone can be butchered? The pig and the cow could also be butchered. For me, the cat is the only animal where butchering doesn't make much sense, since no one would eat cat meat. Other questions are: How do you know in general who owns which animal? or How do you know of which crime the respective animal is accused by his owner? What gives you the idea that e.g. the pig of all animals is accused of theft? It's also illogical to me why the cow goes to the gallows. It's hard to imagine for me to hang a cow.

Anyway, in order to solve such a puzzle, you always need some base data where you can build upon to get to the solution. But there's absolutely no basic information in this puzzle. In mathematics you also always need some starting values in order to calculate or to solve an equation or (in puzzles) to fill the gaps by logical thinking. The linked video also shows this clearly. The example puzzle in the video HAS some basic information that is already given and on which you can build upon. Whereas the puzzle in the fifth age of your room hasn't any base data! And if there is such data... where can I find it???

Hi @Seuchensturm, the information you are looking for is all in the letter you find lying on the table next to the logic grid. Have you found it and turned it over as instructed?

Jeez! I've actually overlooked the letter on the table. How's that possible that I didn't see it? Thanks.

Loved this room - Oh, how touching! I really need someone to hug :(

doesnt the solution for old age lock 1 is 33313?
Wollo  [developer] Aug 17, 2022 @ 2:17am
@NGanip: No, the solution is correct as written (33113). The third image shows the dancer in the background from "Titania and Bottom" (-> scene 1).
You're probably mixing it up with the woman in "Falstaff in the Washbasket" (-> scene 3), which features a woman in a similar pose. The two women can best be told apart from the different poses of head and hand.

yo for the first age, the stars on the crib counts to nine, 3 on the headboard and 6 on the foot, but the answer is 8, is there an error? i kept wondering why i can't get it right.
Wollo  [developer] Apr 19, 2023 @ 10:15pm
@optimum Pride: The hint tells you that you should count the stars that the child sees while it is in the bed and goes to sleep ("look round before you say good night"). If the child is inside the bed, it can only see the 3 stars on the inside of the bed and the 5 stars on the ceiling. It cannot see the six on the outside of the bed.

Really well put together and great puzzle variety! I thoroughly enjoyed it, even if I did have to go for the ladder clue in lack of any musical prowess.
Forgive me if 'lifestock' is an archaic spelling, but shouldn't it be 'livestock'?
Wollo  [developer] Jul 28, 2023 @ 9:40am
@Hurry Thanks for the kind words! And no, that is not an archaic spelling, but a contemporary typo. I'll fix it.

There are several more options for the numbers puzzle, I got this one: 33/33*33+3-3=33

The puzzle accepts three solutions, and yours is one of them. I had only forgotten to list it in the walkthrough, which I have corrected now. Thanks!
If you have another one that I missed, please let me know!
