Frequently Asked Questions
I will be adding to this list the more questions I receive :steamhappy:

Another player just caught a Pokémon that evolves from one of my Pokémon. Does that mean I can't evolve my Pokémon anymore?
Unfortunately, yes. As there is only 1 copy of each Pokémon card in the game, if someone else obtains the evolution to one of your Pokémon, you would need to trade that card from them in order to evolve yours.
Some people like to play with the house rule of cloning cards when they are trying to evolve a Pokémon if someone else already has it. This is fine to do! You just need to clear it with the other players at the table before you start playing.

Does a Support Ability (such as Porygon's) affect my battling Pokémon?
It all depends on if the Support Ability's text specifies "this Pokémon" or "your battling Pokémon".

For example, Porygon's Conversion Ability says; "You may change this Pokémon’s type to any type of your choice until the end of the battle."
Therefore, it only changes Porygon's type and not your battling Pokémon's.

Another example is Butterfree's Quiver Dance Ability. It reads; "Once per battle, you may spend [3 PP] to roll the Movement dice: Your battling Pokémon gets additional AtkPwr equal to the result."
Therefore, it affects your Pokémon that is currently battling (if Butterfree is battling, then it's Butterfree that gets the AtkPwr boost).

Can I change my active Pokémon when I land on a Wild Encounter space?
Yes, you can. However the rules state that you can only change your active Pokémon outside of battle. Once the wild Pokémon is flipped and revealed, a battle begins. Therefore, you can only change it before the Pokémon is revealed.

Since Blaine's Rapidash rolls 2 Battle Bonus dice, what happens if one or both are "Critical Hits"?
When rolling the Battle Bonus for any Pokémon, whenever and each time a "Critical Hit!" is rolled, the Battle Bonus dice is rolled 1 additional time afterwards. Therefore, if either one of Blaine's Rapidash's rolls are a "Critical Hit", you just roll 1 dice and additional time after that. If both were "Critical Hits", you would roll 1 dice 2 more times. Then, if any of those additional rolls are "Critical Hits", you roll one more time, etc... It's best to roll 1 dice at a time so that applying the bonus and any "Critical Hits" are easier to calculate and apply.

I'm currently have [5 PP] but have just gained [2 PP]. Can I spend [7 PP] this turn?
No. The rules state that you may only hold [6 PP] at any time. If you would get PP and exceed 6, you just go up to 6 and the rest is wasted. Keep an eye on your PP tracker and make sure to spend some when it gets near to full!

Do you start the game with any PP?
Yes, players begin the game with [1 PP].

I've just started my turn in a Town/City. Can I perform actions here before I roll to move?
Yes. The rules state that making a movement roll is not necessarily the first thing you need to do on your turn. You have access to the actions of a Town/City space as long as your player piece is on one. Therefore, you can perform actions in a Town/City and then roll to move afterwards.

Can I put Pokémon in my storage if my party is full to make empty positions?
Yes, when using the Pokémon Storage action in a Town/City, you can mix up your team how you like! Even if this means having less than 6 Pokémon.

If I lose a battle with a Gym Leader, can I battle them again with another Pokémon on my team? Or revive my Pokémon and battle them again?
No. The rules state you can only battle a Gym Leader once per turn. Additionally, you cannot use the Pokémon Centre in the same turn you battle a Gym Leader. You can challenge them again, but you'll just have to wait until next turn!

My Pokémon just got KO'd... Does it lose its Level Up Counters?
No, it still gets to keep them!

When trying to claim the Blacksmith Title card, would my fully evolved Charizard count as 3 Pokémon, or just 1?
Your Charizard would count as 3 fire types. When something refers to "your collection", it refers to each individual Pokémon card you have.

I just used the Pokémon Centre to revive a Pokémon. I can't challenge the Gym Leader, but can I still roll to move?
Yes, you can use the actions of a Town/City space before or after making a movement roll. So using one doesn't mean you have to skip moving that turn.

Is there a print and play version of this game?
Yes! You can find the files to print and play your own copy here

Do Caterpie and Weedle's abilities require them to spend 3 level up tokens in addition to the PP cost?

Is there a way to make pokemon other than gym leaders' faint?

No, you don't need to remove any lvl up counters when using Caterpie and Weedle's abilities. I have had this question before, so I'll add some clarifications to the card texts!

Not quite sure what you mean by your second question!
Pokémon are KO'd whenever they lose a battle. So you can make other player's Pokémon faint by forcing them to battle you. Or, if you really wanted to, you can send out one of your Pokémon into battle against a much stronger opponent to have them get KO'd on purpose.
Other than that, there aren't really any other abilities or card effects that let you KO your Pokémon.
Did that help at all? Can I ask why you'd want other Pokémon to get KO'd?

Sorry, I should clarify: I'm talking about the animated models that appear in the arena; when you defeat a gym leader, their pokemon faints; is there any way to make players' pokemon do the same, for example if they lose to a gym leader or another player?

Ah, I see!
Right now, there isn't a way to have the player's model faint. Not sure what button I could associate that function with!
I'll see if there's anything I can come up with and hopefully it will be in the next update :)

Question regarding Koga's Muk:

When the player uses Hitmonchan's Battle Ability to get a "Critical Hit" when he rolled a +3, does this trigger Koga's Muk' effect?

Yes, it would trigger Muk's ability as it happens whenever a Critical Hit is scored. The text on Muk is currently a little unclear. It is intended to basically reverse the effects of a critical hit.

So in this case, Hitmonchan would get -3 AtkPwr instead of +3. But you would still get to roll the Battle Bonus dice an additional time for Hitmonchan.

Hope that makes sense!

So if you can take a Town action after landing there and before moving you're next turn. Does that mean if you don't gym battle you can get 2pp for two visits to the Pokemon Center?

This also would imply you can use Pokecenter. End turn, next turn fight Gym and still move after. Is that right?

Yeah, that sounds like it checks out.

So you could;
Move onto a town > (potentially get 1PP if placing a map pin) > visit Pokémon center and get 1PP > end your turn
> Next turn, visit Pokémon center again and get 1PP > Roll to move away from the town.
OR
> Next turn, battle Gym Leader > After Gym battle, roll to move away from the town.
