Warhawk's Expert Custom Map Reviews For L4D2
This topic has been pinned, so it's probably important

Repository Of Deleted/Unavailable Expert Custom Map Reviews For L4D2
This is my backup for deleted/inaccessible Expert Custom Map Reviews.

Notes: All Custom Maps were played and reviewed on Expert difficulty Campaign mode, unless otherwise specified. 'Quality' = 'Gameplay Quality on Expert at the time of writing'. All reviews and ratings are subjective.

  1. Devil Mountain. Quality: 7.5/10, Difficulty: 7/10, Length: Medium. Played On Expert. Played On Expert. Note that this review was originally written on November 21, 2023, but is currently unavailable due to posting being disabled by the uploader.

Devil Mountain is another good all-around Custom Map.

The immediate, automatic scripted Crescendo event + the evergreen tree garden that slows you down to a crawl, right outside of the spawn area, is extremely rude and not very appreciated from a first-time playthrough perspective, however. It’s certainly one of the worst ways to start a Custom Map that I’ve seen to date.

Beyond this, the rest of Chapter 1 is well-made and looks great, though.

Chapter 2 was extremely short and a bit overly generous with supplies, although it did feature an Easy-Moderate Gauntlet at the end (it’s also notably all downhill, so Bunny-hoppers will rejoice here).

Chapter 3 is where it gets interesting, with foliage, uneven mountainous terrain, rain, and the storm events from Hard Rain. As you ascend the mountain, there are plenty of places for Chargers to get cheeky instakills, as there’s no handrails provided.

Chapter 4 is similar to C3, but features a spooky cave area that contains a Crescendo near the end.

The Finale of Devil Mountain is a fairly easy Defend-Tank-Defend-Double Tank set in a very interesting lighthouse structure atop the titular mountain.

The main thing that makes this Finale so easy is the absolutely ludicrous amount of supplies it provides you with. We’re talking 8 First Aid Kits, two Ammo Piles in dfferent spots, 15+ Gas Cans, 15+ Oxygen/Propane Tanks, tons of bombs and Pills/Adrenaline, and multiple mounted guns.

We held on the roof of the lighthouse mansion and had minimal issues. When the Double Tanks came, we baited them back and forth using the two mounted guns (which forces the AI Tanks to target whomever mounted one first).

Ultimately, Devil Mountain is a well-made and well-polished map (minus the very beginning), with only some rough edges and relatively minor pacing/balancing issues. However, it doesn’t challenge or intrigue enough to warrant a higher Quality rating than 7.5/10, at present.

i'm not about to get into arguments or debates with you
for now i'll only clarify why i removed your "reviews"
it was not to censor you, so i'd appreciate you remove the "naming and shaming"

i don't have a problem with low or "negative" reviews, such as they are
if you didn't notice, i kept your other reviews fully intact
in fact, do you ever visit the other community known as "Game Maps"?
i keep ALL reviews IF they are constructive and contributing and helpful
the fact you'd even repeatedly copy and paste after i deleted them,
not taking the hint, is kind of sad...
and it appears to be the exact same "reviews" again here

no offense to you, but it felt like you only wrote essays and paragraphs to complain
i understand if you didn't like the campaigns, but it sounded like complaining
and nothing positive to help fix or improve

however, as you know, we're all about opinions

if you're willing to try to understand and respect this, I'll remove the block
i didn't intend to make it personal or offend you
but calling out a user like this isn't going to help and is against Steam's TOS

considering they also weren't 100% my campaigns and the authors are long gone...
it's not appreciated to be disrespected like that, but i apologize if you felt that way

also try to consider and realize and understand these campaigns are old
most likely older than you'd think
we didn't always have a workshop for Left 4 Dead 2
as well as all the game updates over the years
it's very likely something might not work like it used to

which is why I am glad to know TimeLordMagnums357
perhaps these campaigns you were concerned about can be better
to be honest, perhaps you could be a help in our own mapping work

anyway, sorry for any misunderstanding
perhaps we can just start over
i have removed the block for now, although i see you blocked me
i'm willing to try to resolve our differences here if you'd like
no hard feelings. perhaps i had noticed your opinions at a bad time
cheers

Here’s the thing that concerns me. You come into this nasty, insulting, pretentious, and threatening, and then suddenly get all nice and warm near the end. You could have exempted all of the negativity in the first half of this post, and it would have only strengthened your overall argument.

"i'm not about to get into arguments or debates with you"

-By posting the first half of your post in the form of an argument, you automatically self-contradicted this statement.

"for now i'll only clarify why i removed your "reviews""

-I don’t appreciate you pretentiously referring to my reviews as "reviews", anymore than you'd appreciate me referring to your uploaded campaigns as "campaigns" in my comments on them.

"if you didn't notice, i kept your other reviews fully intact"

-Yes, I noticed you left up my reviews where the Quality ratings were higher, which to me only serves to highlight that it had nothing to do with how ‘constructive’ you perceived my reviews to be.

“i keep ALL reviews IF they are constructive and contributing and helpful”

-Blatantly untrue, as you'd see if you actually took the time to read my reviews that you deleted. I always try to keep all of my reviews as constructive, specific, and as helpful as possible, as that's literally the whole point of me writing them for the L4D2 community. I don't get paid for this or anything.

My reuploaded reviews above speak for themselves to that end, where I specifically state "in (the map's) current state" (as in, this could still be changed/improved in the future and my review could change if the map is improved), and where I go through each Chapter and specifically highlight what went wrong and/or how something didn't work properly gameplay-wise.

And if you truly believed that I was trolling, being disingenuous with my thoughts, or being unconstructive in my reviews, logically you would have removed all of my posts, and not selectively picked and chosen which of my reviews you felt were worthy to remain.

"but calling out a user like this isn't going to help and is against Steam's TOS...
so if you'd kindly remove that bit of "naming and shaming" of me I'd appreciate it
you'd be surprised, that is a reportable offense with Steam, not that I would...
but as these as public reviews by you, anyone could, just looking out for ya"

-Actually, it's not against TOS at all. You removed my reviews, and I relayed that fact on my removed reviews repository page. It's perfectly reasonable, factual, and relevant contextual information and is not defaming/insulting/demeaning in any way, shape, or form.

"the fact you'd even repeatedly copy and paste after i deleted them,
not taking the hint, is kind of sad...
and it appears to be the exact same "reviews" again here"

-I literally attempted to reach out to you in your Comments in order to get an explanation for why you were deleting my reviews, just like you're doing here now.

But instead of using your words and being reasonable and respectful towards me, you just deleted my very Comment in which I asked you why you were deleting my reviews and Comments.

Would you like it if I responded to your Comments here by simply Deleting them? I don't think that you would. And likewise, I did not.

I put a lot of time and effort into writing my reviews, especially those two you deleted, and for you to respond to them by clicking 'Delete' and removing them in an instant is very disrespectful. No matter who wrote them.

"also try to consider and realize and understand these campaigns are old
most likely older than you'd think
we didn't always have a workshop for Left 4 Dead 2
as well as all the game updates over the years
it's very likely something might not work like it used to"

-I understand this 100%. That's why I specifically state in my Notes for this review Collection "All Custom Maps were played and reviewed on Expert difficulty Campaign mode, unless otherwise specified. 'Quality' = 'Gameplay Quality on Expert at the time of writing'. All ratings are subjective."

My reviews and ratings are entirely based on how a Custom Map plays on Expert difficulty in the present.

IE I'm not going to give lovely maps like Yama or Fairfield Terror a default 10/10 for Quality just because they're old, classic, iconic, symbolic, pretty, or otherwise.

My Expert Reviews are entirely gameplay-based, utilitarian, and are written subjectively, as stated.

"anyway, sorry for any misunderstanding
perhaps we can just start over
i have removed the block for now, although i see you blocked me
i'm willing to try to resolve our differences here if you'd like
no hard feelings. perhaps i had noticed your opinions at a bad time
cheers...
contrary to popular belief, i'm not a bad guy, not that bad once you get to know me
if I was so malicious, I wouldn't have attempted wasting my time here to talk to you...
i've been on Steam for over 15 years and through my fair share of drama
as I said prior, you most likely caught me at a bad time back then
but I've not come here to get personal or weird
if you'd like to talk about this, my door's open"

-I hold no ill-will or bitter feelings towards you as a person whatsoever. It's your prior abusive actions and censorship that I took issue with. Nothing more, nothing less.

"and before I forget, they're not actually "deleted"
not sure how Steam designed their "discussions" and whatnot, but...
they're still fully accessible, even after being "deleted", they're really only hidden
if it's that big of a damn deal to you, I can easily restore them for you"

-Certainly. If you reinstate the deleted reviews, I'll gladly remove them from this post, link to them on my other post as per usual, and remove all mention of you ever deleting them from both posts.

Clearly there's been some misunderstandings
We'll have to agree to disagree
We don't have to be friends but we don't have be enemies either
I still say we have the wrong idea about each other
But perhaps we can reset and start over
I did not intend to disrespect you by removing your content
As I said, you most likely had me at a bad time
I honestly don't remember you reaching out to me first, but this is why we're here
To clear the air and resolve it
I meant no ill will or for it to be personal
I don't just keep positive reviews only
I have plenty of lower reviews else where
I should have asked you for more clarity on the matters
So I admit I made some mistakes in my actions
This experience shows perhaps differences in opinions and definitions
and learning from some mistakes
Looking back on it now, I was going through some ♥♥♥♥
Not trying to make excuses, but at least there's an explanation
Stress from transitioning to new jobs / locations
Sorry for spamming up the discussions
I want to make sure we're understood and this doesn't give you a bad idea about me

No worries. As said, I hold no ill-will or bitter feelings towards you as a person whatsoever.

And I appreciate and respect that you reached out, explained yourself, and took concrete and positive actions to resolve the issue. I've edited both posts to reflect the current reality.

It was most likely holiday stress including new job situations.

You're most welcome to join Time Lord and myself for future adventures if you'd like.
I feel we actually could learn a lot from each other, working together.

Also, just so you know, as we've resolved the matters, I've removed my comments.
Might be a good idea we both do some cleanup here so as to not throw off anyone else.
Probably also remove this in time after you've seen it.
Sent you a friend request as per this and everything else going forward.

I do find you a valuable asset and good user in my book.
Thanks again for hearing me out and giving me a chance.
I apologize for taking out my frustration over a bad day on your reviews.
As well as the potential disrespect using quotes and how else I first appeared.

I look forward to more reviews, including if you stumble upon more of my content.
I'll learn from this moment and be sure to seek clarity and explain better when necessary.
How else do we learn if we don't make mistakes or ask questions, after all!
Not to keep repeating myself, but yea, upon reflection, that day... was simply a bad day.

Indeed, understandable.

For sure! I appreciate the kind and endearing words Trunten. I'm pleased that we were able to come to an amicable resolution here in such a positive exchange.

I'll be leaving my own comments here, personally, as they're directly relevant and pertinent contextual information to the 'Repository Of Deleted/Unavailable Expert Custom Map Reviews For L4D2', which formally had 3 reviews listed, but now only has 1; thanks to your assiduous efforts and outreach.

I think that our public discussion here was good, positive, and productive. The wholesome result will no-doubt make anyone who reads it smile, as it serves to highlight that we're all united by the betterment of our community through mutual open dialogue and understanding.

I've made sure to clean up the comments and discussions elsewhere, where they were non-relevant.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! :winter2019happydog:

No worries Trunten, I wouldn't allow any funny business, negativity, or trolling on my pages here. They're ultimately here to serve a function. I'd lock the post and report the relevant users if the discussions ever veered into any problematic discourse.

Glad to hear you're having a good time!
