Many finnish faiths have the myth of a great hero; giant that comes back in the time of trouble and protects the country and its people Kalvipoeg, Suur Toll, Tusthen etc. It would be fun if with high piety levels, Finno-ugric rulers could summon these great heroes and their armies to help during a large invasion.
I worked on some mods before (mostly translating Kaiserreich) would love to help you write stuff or research info on Russia Finno-Ugric tribes to add some unique features for them
I studied history in uni and I work in IT so I can help you with some advice if you need it. Sadly, I do not have enough free time for modding.
I'm going to give you a link to the map of Europe (viking age) made by the main expert of viking age North-Eastern Europe in the world. As you can see, the focus has been put on the borders between Baltic-Finnic people and their neighbours.:

Finland was settled by Baltic-Finnic migrants rather recently and it was inhabited just by the Saami before the Estonians brought Finnic languages to Finland. That's why the Saami still inhabit most of Finland during the viking age.
Women played a much larger role in Sami religion in this period than is currently shown, and Noaidi could come from pretty much anyone regardless of gender. After the christianisation of Sweden and the enforced conversions, Sami society became a lot more patriarchal from these influences, but prior to that were relatively egalitarian. Modern Sami society and our records of their history are unfortunately largely lost or distorted by colonial and christian influence, which makes it hard to represent them properly. Regarding same-sex relations, there is insufficient information to make conclusions one way or the other about Sami society's acceptance of queerness, but given the egalitarianism of the pre-Christian period it wouldn't be unreasonable to believe that like many pre-colonial societies they had more relaxed views on same-sex relations than the Christian colonizers.
Anyway, partner says it's a really neat mod, but yeah, historically the Sami faith should definitely be equal rather than male-dominated, and it wouldn't be unreasonable for same-sex relations to be less shunned. Have a lovely day :)
I will probably make it compatible first when/if I have the time, then add content later. We will see.
- retinue types for sami (and veps, the others) because 3 innovations and metsänvartija arent that good for a culture with a huge landmass.. maybe sami could be a bit split up, like skolts, kvens, and other stuff. Bjarmians should have longships?
For a retinue i would suggest ski hunters, or just some kind of hunters.
- remove izhoria, veps and bjarmaland from empire of russia, and some of the eastern areas, basically revamp volga ural.. (Kaleva from waterfowl people comeback??)
- right when court jesters and other ♥♥♥♥ get added, change the names
- add more finno ugric names
- make finnish characters more light haired??
- add compatability at some point for a mod that makes more russian cultures and splits them, because rn russian culture is a big blob
-add more finno ugric events, like raising a big monument, seeing a giant in your dreams, being inspired by kaleva
-add special buildings capability, maybe its a bug that finno ugrics cant build them?
- make veps culture smaller and bjarmian bigger
