Change prefix 'Dirt' to something more fitting
After reading the description of this Mod I think it's a really cool idea, as one can now smelt down the armour and weapons the find to help them make the ones they want. The only problem is the name of the initial ingots you get. The example used in the description was iron that would melt down to 'Dirt iron' and lets be honest that doesn't exactly sound very good. Surely a better prefix for these new ingots would be 'Impure' so now instead of 'Dirt iron' you would get 'Impure iron' ingots. What do you think?

I personally wouldn't care if it changed, but 'Impure iron' or 'Cracked iron' etc. would fit better. I've seen both those prefix's in other RPG games, but I've also come across other games that include 'dirt' ores, however, never seen a 'dirt ingot' before this mod. Moreover, I agree, this is a great idea and will make collecting ingots much easier, even if one were to purchise armor to smelt into extra ingots.

"Impure" would probably be the best option.

unsmelted makes sense to me....more than impure because the objective is to make the user smelt it to make the ingot.
Example:
Unsmelted Iron
Unsmelted Ebony
These would not be the same as ore so that might need to be addressed, meaning a separate list of how many "Unsmelted..." required to make the ingot. Seems pretty straight forward no matter which was you go with the descriptive word. I was just thinking Unsmelted would be a little more clear.

Impure implies that it is a compound rather than an element which is more fitting to the idea that you have to re-smelt this new item, also wouldn't unsmelted ingots be the same as ore?

I like impure a lot better.

But wouldn't it feel odd to place an item in a smelter and recieve an 'unsmelted' ingot? honestly 'Unsmelted' is less fitting than 'Dirt'.

Honestly given how it works. I'd say "Scrap/s" is a better option.
* For example 3 "Scrap" Iron or even just 3 (Iron) scaps give you an (Iron) ingot.

scrap metal, then reclaimed, then refined. Oh wait, wrong game.
MyPetTarrasque Jan 3, 2014 @ 4:50pm
Yeah, I agree with JacobDRodriguez. "Scrap" is good, because you're collecting scraps. "Dirt" gets the idea across, but is a strange word to use. Looking forward to your mod, though. I was actually going to do something like this, but don't have the attention span.

I like "scrap" as well. I think it's more clear.

Nice! Finally a mod that answers to my compulsive hoarding :riften:
As for the designation of the recycled metals I go with "Scrap" too, for clarity. "Dirt" kinda covers it as well but indeed sounds less appealing, "Impure" seems like it implies less sturdy metal. And sorry, but "Unsmelted" doesn't make any sense at all IMHO.

I'll have some scrap then!

Or maybe mix? Some of them will be impure, other will be scrap, unsmelted, etc. I will do this next time when I will get CK in my hands. I know that "Dirt" prefix was't perfect, but thanks to you I know it for sure :)

I have to agree with either "Scrap [metal]" or "Impure [metal] ingot". "Dirt" doesn't fit well at all in English context since that implies earth, soil, etc. But since you are reclaiming scrap metal and recycling it into first an impure substance, then a pure one, one of those terms would make more sense.

I'm thinking scrap would be a good prefix, also you wouldnt have to ad an item for the dwarven metal ones.
Sponticore Jan 11, 2014 @ 10:33am
The term would be unrefined. Unrefined Iron Ore, Unrefined Silver Ore etc. At a refinery impure metals are melted so that the 'slag' or impure substances in the metal ore can be removed.
