I say this because the rebels have a far cheaper but unchanged capital/frigate line and while the venator of the empire is great both victories are under powered by a massive margin
and the dreadnought and bulk cruiser for the rebellion to balance the vindicator and the gladiator
It was only used twice in the campaign with the tutorial and the final battle with the Eclipse.
You could have it be if a Defiler is present in a space battle, the transport barge containing it can initiate a Capture mechanic.
Since the barge is already extremely fragile, its primary counters would be fighters and corvettes.
Only one ship can be captured by the Defiler and once captured, the ship belongs to the ZC permanently but the Defiler and transport are removed from play.
You could also give the Rebels and Empire their own versions of this mechanic.
After all, there was originally going to be "a counter-Defiler diplomat unit" before it got scrapped.
for empire tech in my mod there is 4 or 5 upgrades per level that each unlock a new level and then when you have the last of them you can get the tech upgrade. this reaaly makes having multiple reaserch bases worth it!
