Left 4 Dead 2

Death Aboard2 [Part 1]
Kyle's Review of "Death Aboard" - 4/5
Incredibly memorable despite its jank. 4/5 stars.

Death Aboard honestly kicks ass. The levels aren't always polished in terms of detail -- an obvious sign of its age -- but the aesthetics and design are fundamentally solid throughout. All five chapters feature unique and unforgettable environments with a wonderful amount of verticality, and the standout chapter is on a cargo ship that's tilted slightly askew after crashing into the harbor. The levels are maze-like due to numerous alternate paths, but there are always arrows telling you where to go.

Unfortunately, the open spaces and long sightlines make the crescendo events a bit of a letdown, particularly the finale. They're too easy, especially with the excessive first aid spawns in every map. This campaign also lacks a bit of personality -- there's no graffiti writing or Survivor dialogue at all.

Still, this is a campaign that's more than the sum of its parts. It's over 10 years old now, but there's still nothing quite like it.
