Left 4 Dead 2

Chernobyl: Chapter One
This is beautiful but it crashes way too much :(
Such a beautifully detailed campaign when I get to see it but in 2 minutes or less almost every time and no matter how I choose to play, the game crashes to desktop. I've left several comments on the main feed but never get a response. I figure I'll try here.

I normally play on Linux but I can also play on Windows. It doesn't matter which OS I try, it'll crash. I can disable all addons and lower the settings to potato and it'll still crash. It'll crash on a dedicated server or if I locally host it. It's usually a hard crash straight to desktop, the whole game just vanishes. It crashes no matter what dedicated server I join and it'll crash if my friends host it. It's like an all you can eat crash buffet.

This campaign looks stunning and I'd love to play it but I'm out of options on what to try. Short of switching OS, disabling all addons, lowering settings and changing the hosting options, what else can maybe be done to help out here?

If anyone encounters the persistent crash to desktop during the map loading or within the level 1 like me, try to lower your Effect Detail and Model / Texture Detail to low, but keep your other options to the highest or like your previous settings if you have decent system. (My video card is GTX970) At least, these settings could let me finish this campaign with varied 70 of Steam workshop addons and it wouldn't crash anymore.

I attempted to play it without any addon but game still crashed with serious fps drop. Even my friend's GTX1060 couldn't run this map with the highest settings.

Sorry, late to the party, but the campaign as a whole is very large at ~2.8 GB and it's very likely that the crashes are caused by the game hitting its ~3.7 GB memory cap due to being 32-bit. On Linux, this tolerance is even tighter because of the Linux-specific stuff taking up extra memory compared to the Windows build.

Thanks. I tried with Windows 10 Pro with 16GB of memory and all around, it's a pretty decent system yet this campaign crashes no matter what I try. I literally tried everything I mentioned in the original post. maybe it changed since I last played it but I haven't seen any updates pass 1.0.6 (I think that was the last I tried).

If you have too many mods which their file sizes are more than 100mb, replace it with lower mb(s). Just less than 100, and it's gonna be fine. I tested it.

I've tried everything. The Buried Deep campaign had some issues and working with the author over there we made some discoveries that may or may not affect this campaign. We discuss it here https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/discussion/2274787444/2987539784435287466/

Also, since the campaign crashes with or without mods, on Windows or Linux, all regardless of quality, I'm thinking maybe it's an AMD issue but I can't confirm.

i think you need a gaming computer for better fps and not crashing

The Reason why this Game crashes so much is because the Zombies that are killed will spawn again , which causes the game to overload and Crash.

I find it utterly ridiculous and snippy that you'd have to tweak your in-game settings in order to play a map
