do i need a new game?

i downloaded this after starting a game, and didnt see it in my research tree, so i spent all my money buying iron plates to upgrade my bench, and still nothing. is there an easy fix or some requirement that im not seeing?

never mind, i needed to open the game while i was still online. my apartment doesnt have access, so i had to go offline before i opened the game, so it never loaded.
