well the supervesus dont affect much the original campaign mega hordes, this is where
Superhordes comes to save you, because super hordes has the main campaign/story edit
which superversus dont have.
Re-Extract the file or the entire mod tbh, Although it's weird that it doesn't work as its still working for me very fine like there is no crashes. Unless you make the horde becomes limit 400 which i have to restate it that if you input the static number like 400.
That 400 becomes 800, so i advise to not go beyond 200 in base number (i really don't recommend it because L4D2 is only a 32 bit game, it will crash as more entities start to spawn in and needs to be processed by the game's engine.)
Also i think Super Horde isn't truly compatible except the campaign horde files which it modified, it just fix the static (like random hordes) back to what the Super Horde Configuration has on the txt/nut file.
TL:DR - If you have 400 in the value, it will doubles by logic because thats how super versus works. It doubles the spawns of commons and S.I to balance the 8 survivors, i don't advice going 200 in base numbers. (I know it's complex but it is what it is, we have yet to see an actual stable 8 survivors mod that doesn't tamper the numbers of commons and specials but it's just a nuisance at best.)
https://imgur.com/a/mJVNvFR < A guide for anyone would probably look into (I'm not really sure actually on the Special infected value part, but i had to make a modified hard eight mutation file to increase the S.I size so that works.)
