Reprisal and Linux
Update: May 2013

If you would to help get Reprisal to Linux you can try out the Beta version of the game. Help us by letting us know how it run's and any problems you find. The most current build can be downloaded from here:

Link updated 30 May 2013
Due to over ambitious publishing restrictions a time trial was in the last build, this has been removed on this new link. Apologies :D

This version of Reprisal does NOT require AIR installed!
Please leave any feedback below and thank you all for helping

In some cases, Users must apply the correct permissions to the Compiled Projector. This can be done by executing the following command from the System Shell:

"chmod a+x Reprisal - Linux beta v6"

Applying the 'chmod' will grant the application the correct permissions and enable it to run.

Build Notes:
- br6 - Removed time trial limit!!!
- br5 - Exit button fixed, other tweaks ...
- br4 - Renamed form, changed full screen launch settings
- br3 - Added full screen
- br2 - Correct path to application error
- br1 - First test release for Linux without the need for AIR

Known issues:
- Exit button does not work in game
- No right click support

There have been a few requests about Reprisal being available for Linux platforms, there is currently a standalone version of Reprisal for Linux based on Adobe AIR. Since Adobe ceased updating the AIR platform for Linux it was felt that we couldn't provide a smooth enough experience as far as the end user is concerned. It requires the player to install the last AIR release from Adobe, 2.6, on their system before it can be played.

If there is a demand then we can happily release this version and can be made available. We are looking into alternative publishing methods to bring Reprisal to the Linux platform in a more robust way!

If your a Linux user and would like Reprisal please just add a comment here to let us know the demand and we will of course keep you all posted in our efforts.

Thanks for your interest! :D

Hi, if your willing to help out in some testing for the Linux version, please drop us a message on our facebook page and we can then arrange to get test builds out. Today we believe we may have 'possibly' found an alternative AIRless solution!! :D

I'm really looking forward to a native Linux version! If it could not rely on AIR, it would really be awesome, since the outdated AIR adds vulnerabilities to Linux systems (and most serious Linux distributions do not provide a package for AIR because of that).

If you start developing a native Linux port, I'll happily buy the game to provide feedback on the work-in-progress.

For those of you with Linux, here's a Friday link to a beta build to give it a try. This build is standalone and does not rely on the AIR runtime!

It's a beta build so please save any documents before running, please give feedback if you run into any problems and let us know how you get on!

Thanks Jon!

I've not played this game before and have only run the beta for 5 minutes but everything seems fine so far on Ubuntu 12.10 64bit.

It seems like a cool game so I'll endeavour to play through the campaign tomorrow night and report back some time.

There is no respone from the "Quit Reprisal" button and I don't know what the Zoom modes (full/normal) are supposed to do but I can't see any difference.

Apart from that, I've played over 10 levels and can't fault it.

Ah, yes spotted that, I think it will be easy to sort. Just trying to get it running full screen (that will make the zoom modes make more sense) Thank you for your help with testing, much appreciated :D

Have updated the runtime file, it should now hopefully support full screen functions. Still need to make the 'exit' button to work! (hopefully escape should do the trick) If you download the new run time from the following link and copy it into your Reprisal folder to run it:

OK, it now launches as a bordered, maximised window with the actual video output being the same size as with the previous beta. Best illustrated with a screenshot:

The zoom button stretches the video to match the inside of the window:

Also, the window title bar says "Main form". I'm not sure if any of this is just my desktop environment (GNOME3) being funky or not.

Anyway, thanks, I like the game so I will carry on playing now :)

Hm ok cool, it shouldn't have a border ideally and run full screen. Have tweaked some settings. Need to sort out the Exit button and look into Right Click support, but it's getting there! Thank you for all your help. I'll be updating the build link in the first post of this discussion with future build updates to keep things a bit tidy :D

Trying to run it but i'm missing a lib it seems and can't find it in synpatic either:

liam@liam-ubuntu:~/Downloads/games/rep$ '/home/liam/Downloads/games/rep/Reprisal - Linux beta v4'
/home/liam/Downloads/games/rep/Reprisal - Linux beta v4: error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Ubuntu 13.04, 64bit

The game is awesome and works pretty great. What I don't like is that it phones home.
* Connected to ( port 80 (#0)
It should at least be optional, really.
There are A LOT of Linux out there with privacy concerns.
Thank you :)

Fun stuff - kinda limited as to what can be done by the right click thing, but not seeing any problems aside from the two mentioned already. Kubuntu 12.10 64bit
