STAR WARS™ Empire at War: Gold Pack

STAR WARS™ Empire at War: Gold Pack

Ultimate Galactic Conquest Custom Edition (UGC CE) - No Consortium and More !
Possible Potential In-Game Music Tracks
I've been putting together a collection of tracks that could possibly be added to the mod.

Before I get crucified for proposing non-Star Wars tracks to the collection, I wanted to justify my choice of compositions.

There's only so many times that one can listen to Duel of Fates, Anakin vs Obi Wan, and all of the other mainstream Star Wars hits like the Battle of Coruscant, the Rogue One Imperial Suite, etc.

I wanted to pitch a list of tracks that not-only sound uncannily similar to Star Wars without breaking immersion but, also enhance the mod with music that wasn't composed specifically with a narrative in-mind (like the tracks from the films).

Don't get me wrong, I like Frank Klepacki's work but, one of the big issues that Empire at War and Forces of Corruption had at the time of their releases was that the soundtrack sounded like it was trying too hard to be John Williams but, lacked a live orchestra to deliver the same punch of the original Star Wars compositions.

This collection will include non-Star Wars tracks as well as some obscure tracks from games like Republic Commando and Bounty Hunter.

After listening to the tracks, let me know what you guys think of the selections ♥

With that in-mind, here are the selections I put together:

Land / Space Battles
In A Muddle - Katsuro Tajima
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5afwrAxRshw

The track was by one of the composers of Katamari Damacy. This track in particular has a very distinct Star Wars feel that actually contrasts from the overall feel of Katamari games to the point that its almost funny how not-Katamari it sounds. This track could easily fit into the mod's land/space battle music.

Land Battles
Big Fire - Katsuro Tajima
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ui9ucfkqvAI

Tajima has quite a few tracks that sound like Star Wars tracks. This one sounds more fitting for land battles than space battles.

Rebel and/or Empire Galactic Map
Misterioso - Katsuro Tajima
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycdisqNcxPM

Much like the previous two tracks, Misterioso has a very strong resemblance to compositions found across multiple Star Wars films and games. At the same time, the composition doesn't sound too invasive and could easily be used as Galactic Map music for both the Rebels and the Empire.

Land Battles
Africa - Michael Giacchino
https://youtu.be/anHHKiJ7aDc

For those of you that were unaware of this, Michael Giacchino was the composer for Rogue One but, before Star Wars, Giacchino actually composed music of countless video games and films including the Medal of Honor games(World War 2 era), The Incredibles, Up, the first two Call of Duty games, etc.

This particular track is from Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Despite the track being called, Africa, it feels very reminiscent to music that would be heard on Tatooine or even with the Hutts or Pirates. Its somewhat fitting that Giacchino tracks appear in a Star Wars mod since a lot of battles in Star Wars pay homage to WW2 films.

Land Battles
Tiger Attack - Michael Giacchino
https://youtu.be/6dSJTdHfD_E

Another track from Giacchino, Tiger Attack has a very Rogue One vibe. You can even find some hints of his Medal of Honor roots in Rogue One tracks like The Imperial Suite.

Land Battles
Salt Mine - Michael Giacchino
https://youtu.be/29CbiXMCI8g

This track is actually a remastered version of the track, Merker's Salt Mine, from the original Medal of Honor. This particular track is probably one of my favorites because of how 'gritty' it sounds. It sounds like something you would probably hear on Endor or even Scarif.

Space Battles
Tracking Down the Bounty - Star Wars: Bounty Hunter OST
https://youtu.be/iuo_zLTt2q0

This track is from one of the earlier games in the Clone Wars era, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. The track itself is based on the Coruscant chase scene from Episode II which was also used later recycled for Battlefront II (2005).

Space Battles
Komari Vosa - Star Wars: Bounty Hunter OST
https://youtu.be/lkAkxNCccMM

This track was originally the boss theme for Bounty Hunter's main antagonist, Komari Vosa, Count Dooku's apprentice before Asajj Ventress. The only issue I have with this track is that it fades at the end.

Battle Loading Screen
Through the Canopy - Jesse Henlin
https://youtu.be/12YBgi-WFkE

"Through the Canopy" is a track from Star Wars: Republic Commando. There's nothing that can really get you quite as pumped for battle as the pre-mission tracks from Republic Commando. Its also one of the few Republic Commando tracks without Mando'a vocals behind it; which allows the track to work in a non-Clone Wars/Mandalorian setting.

Consortium Galactic Map
Kachirho By Night Vision - Jesse Henlin
https://youtu.be/LnkE7oZ_ewA

Another track from Republic Commando, "Kachirho By Night Vision" delivers a subtle but, foreboding atmosphere that better fits the style of the Consortium while viewing the map of the galaxy.

Consortium Galactic Map
Com Interference - Jesse Henlin
https://youtu.be/rx4K8ubSU5U

Like the previous track, "Com Interference" would add a more atmospheric and less invasive feel to the Consortium galactic map without sounding overly edgy like most of the tracks Klepacki composed for the Consortium.

This is all I have so far but, let me know what you all think in the comments ♥

All good choices. Might I suggest some of the old KOTOR music as well? It'd be pretty awesome to be in one of the cityscape levels and hear the old haunting Taris surface theme before your forces engage in battle. There's more than enough music in that game to fill a number of themes and I think it has the audio quality of at least Frank's works.

I actually haven't played KOTOR enough to know about the music (just got it) but, I read enough about the Old Republic to influence my level design work for the mod (:

However, considering how well-received KOTOR is, I can't possibly doubt that the music in KOTOR isn't good.

Having just listened to the Upper City theme, I could probably see it as one of the Rebel Galactic Map tracks.

I'm on board with all of your choices except "Tracking Down the Bounty".
Thanks for your continuous work on this great mod !

What was the name of the piano piece that seemed to be a mix of a jedis fury, obi wans theme, and padmes theme?

Imperial March Heroic Version?

That's the one. For some reason, I thought that it was a remake of the music from Vader and Luke's last fight.

Ah. No.
That's actually used for the Imperial Pending Battle.

I was happy to see that you implemented my suggestion about the imperial tactical battle sound :)
Could you update Thrawns icon [vignette.wikia.nocookie.net] and voicelines with the new canon material?
I don't know if you already did this, but I think his buffs should focus on starfighters and other smaller craft (and maybe more in the direction of accuracy than firepower), as he isn't very enthusiastic about the Tarkin doctrine. I believe this has already been suggested before and maybe even been implemented, but it'd be nice if his presence over a planet would reduce TIE Defender cost or build time.

EDIT: And his ship is called Chimaera in canon.

Funny thing you mention that, I actually considered compiling new dialogue for Thrawn and making a new icon. Heck, I considered recording the dialogue myself lol
I might try combing through the Thrawn audiobook for context specific lines.

Is Thrawns voice in the audio book similar to his voice in Rebels?

Yeah. The voice in the audiobook was what the voice in Rebels was based on cause the narrator for the book was the same guy that voiced Thrawn in the Legends audiobooks. The only version of Thrawn that I know of to-date with the deep voice is the EaW version.

I think the music still needs some 'tuning'.
I remember in the vanilla game there was dedicated track lists for the Empire and Rebels but, I feel like some of the galactic map only music somehow bled its way into the land and space battle music.

After looking through the XML for the MusicEvents, I discovered that the Trade Federation March is in almost every map theme (Temperate, Ice, Swamp, etc).

Over the next few weeks or even the next month, I will try to vet these to ensure that each environment type has its own unique playlist. That way, the Rebels and Empire will have their own faction-specific playlists for Temperate, Desert, Ice, Swamp, Volcanic, and Urban style maps.

I found a google spreadsheet[docs.google.com] with links to unreleased star wars rebels music, maybe you are interested. This[static1.squarespace.com] alternate Thrawn theme sounds nice.

I actually really like that version and might add it as a Rebel battle track
