No. Super no.
Dragons Lair was good because of Don Bluth's art. Take that away, make it crappy 3d, and it sucks.

Dragon's Lair is a fantastic game. I still have most of the rooms memorized and I haven't played the game since around '88. But hands down it is my personal all-time favorite game. Hell, look at my avatar. Even my multiplayer spraypaint/marker is Princess Daphne in most games.

That being said, the 3D version was quite enjoyable. Certainly no substitute for the orginal, but fun none-the-less. It was a solid game for its time considering most non-id, non-unreal 3D games were full of bugs. And many of the gameplay mechanics were were well developed and thought provoking.

there is a 3d version on the ps2 and it sucked
I remember playing the 3D one on PC and I loved it at the time. So yea, put it on Steam, if you don't like just don't buy it.

I recently reinstalled the PC version of DL3D and it is a great 3rd person action game. Really fun. It's nice to have control of Dirk the Daring instead of just pushing one button and watching the next scene. I love that they stuck to Bluth's art style. An underrated gem of a game.

Here's the original arcade playthrough.

It's not a bad game. I'd buy it!

I love this game! Completely underestimated... I would love to see it on Greenlight and was going to suggest it, but I'm not even sure who owns the game anymore to even write them an email. Dragonstone (developer) doesn't exist anymore and I think Ubisoft published the game but I'm not sure. But a remastered PC version with controller support would be fantastic.
Dragon's Lair 3D. Hell yes put it on. It is soo much fun to play. Finally, you can pretty much play and make your moves where and when you want. Go exploring great levels and like I said, I had a lot of fun.

I realize this is an old discussion, but I'd like to throw another vote in for getting Dragon's Lair 3D on Steam. Doubt it will happen unless Digital Leisure can somehow get the rights to it from Ubisoft.

I know this is an old thread, but I have the original CDs and have just figured out how to get it working under Windows 10 - oh joy :) I still wish that Steam and/or GOG would get it though.

Here are my notes. Let me know how you get on:

Install game as usual. Will likely get lots of cannot find CD error messages but just keep pressing "Continue".

Once installed, navigate to the following directory (assuming the default install location was selected):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubi Soft\Dragonstone\Dragon's Lair 3D\bin

There should be a DL3D.exe file in this folder. Rename this to something like DL3Dorig.exe

Now extract the DL3D.exe file contained in the grudl3dcd.rar file to the same location as the original DL3D.exe file (the no-CD crack was downloaded from : {LINK REMOVED}.

Once the settings dialog appears set them to the following:

Video : 2560x1440x32 (or whatever works best for your monitor)
Audio : Quality = High
Speaker Setup = Surround Sound
Provider = Craetive Labs EAX
Reverb = leave as default level
Advanced : Character Outlines = Hardware anti-aliasing
Character Detail = Hi
Coronas = On
Motion Blur = On
High Quality Textures = On
Dynamic Shadows = On

If vJoy or other virtual joystick driver is installed then go to Control Panel and disable it IF when starting the game the camera spins continuously.

The game should now run fine. However, when it starts do go to options and change screen aspect ratio to 16:9 (assuming that you have a widescreen monitor)

Background Notes

Without this CD crack the game appears to do nothing when run. In fact there are some error logs contained in the Windows > System logs that can be seen using Event Viewer. These show an error that includes this line:

This refers to the SafeDisc driver (SECDRV.SYS) that has been completely removed from Windows 10. Further information on this can be found here. can be found here:

So, when trying to run DL3D the game firstly does it's SafeDisc copy protection check. When it cannot find the SECDRV.SYS it fails and exits without any onscreen notification. Windows would normally have handled this error message display but it appears to be the case that Microsoft have completely removed SafeDisc and associated messages from Windows 10.
