Evolving Relationships

Have Hero A and Hero B built up a rivalry, only to find that affection has crept up on them?
Has A suddenly realized that their friendship with B could be something more romantic?

Or maybe you just wish your hero would address the fact that their lover suddenly has a giant wolf head.

Evolving Relationships adds 8 new events (5 pre-battle, 2 while scouting, and 1 post-victory). Each event offers a possible shift in the relationship between two heroes, either due to circumstances they find themselves in, or due to their own physical characteristics. Also featuring personality-dependent dialogue, some transformation-dependent dialogue, and 3 follow-ups that can appear in the peacetime intervals between chapters!

A bit more detail on each event is in the spoilers below:
  • Tides and Tensions Rising: Rivals get trapped in a flooding cave, and might reconsider their relationship.
  • Three's Company: A hero in a romance with an Inhabited hero wonders who they're really involved with. (requires Shadow transformation)
  • Unburied Dreams: A Thrixl illusion makes a hero reconsider their relationship with a friend.
  • Of Love and Lochias: A hero transformed by the Wolf God wonders if they frighten their love. (requires Wolftouched head transformation)
  • A Change of Fate: Rivals encounter a spirit of fate in a ruin and choose the future of their relationship.
  • A Crush on You: Two stony heroes renegotiate their romantic relationship. (requires Child of the Hills and Crystalline arm transformations)
  • Whatever Tomorrow Brings: Relieved after surviving another battle, friends discuss deepening their relationship.
  • Like a Spark to Kindling: Two heroes with seemingly incompatible transformations discuss whether their romance can last. (requires Flamesoul and Elmsoul/Botanical transformations)

Does this mod break legacy relationships?
I had two legacy heroes that were soulmates and when I started a new campaign with both of them one got "**relationship_none" instead of a romance.

Hey, you seem like the sort who might be able to answer this question. I'd like for characters to be able to have multiple romantic relationships, but it seems like that's simply not an option in the current coding of the game.

I'd just like to know if this is a limitation that can be removed, or if the game's got monogamy hardcoded? Because as a Polyamorous person with several characters who are as well, I'd like to be able to play my lovely battlecule.

Cool idea. Any chance for some relationship commentary on the crowtouched? I tend to end up with that more than wolf. Also, i loved your peacetime variety.

Across multiple campaigns and 100+ hours of gameplay I still haven't seen any of these or the more peacetime variety, I know they're enabled so I'm just hoping I finally get lucky!

I just got the "Of Love and Lochias" event for a couple where both partners were wolves. I like the idea of the event, but I don't think it makes any sense in this specific situation. It should require the second character to NOT be wolftouched.

My mod doesn't include any events for the custom transformations from Expanded Humans: Themes, no. But the two mods also shouldn't conflict at all, so if your heroes have parts from the specific vanilla transformations relevant to one of my events, it should still be able to run.

Is it compatible with the expanded themes mod ? Like does the dialogues/events trigger with modded transformations ?

Hmm, I just pulled it up and it's spelled "Friendship" for me. That's actually the one that's used as the image for this mod, haha. Are you sure it was that event? I just went through all of them again and they all looked okay on my end.

Tides and Tensions Rising Has the Friendship Option spelled out as "Friendshi".
