Milky Way Unleashed

Description
Milky Way Unleashed Version 2
(Compatible with Stellaris v 1.6)
Most likely incompatible with later versions

Milky Way Unleashed is a static galaxy variation on the theme started in Sol Unleashed, which is intended for people who like to play as humans starting from the Sol system, and want to see lots of familiar star systems surrounding Sol.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must select the galaxy type 'static' before you will be able to see the map.

Key features:

- An enhanced Sol system, with additional moons and revised planetary distances and planet/moon sizes.
- About 50 real stars, with correct names, correct position relative to Sol (within the contraints of the 2-D interface), correct star class, approximately correct relative star size.

If you prefer a non-static galaxy, try my other mods:

Sol Unleashed: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=698028895
Sol Unleashed Lite: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=701694116

How to Play

At present, you can only play as humans. Select the Milky Way (Human) map, and select the United Nations of Earth. If you wish to play with the enhanced Sol initializer, then select the initializer called MWU Map: Sol. Note that you cannot select the number of AI. The game will automatically generate 22 AI for the map. You can edit the humans, but if you try to play with saved version of the race, it will likely not work.

Limitations

- You must play as humans. If you try to play as aliens, you will most likely spawn on an uninhabitable planet.
- You cannot vary the number of AI.
- The Commonwealth of Man is not yet enabled.

To do list
1. Allow for different numbers of AI.
2. Provide for playing as non-humans, and also as Commonwealth of Man
3. Enhance the map with other features, such as globular clusters, and different system types in the galactic core.
4. Local cluster map (around 1500 light years around Sol).
5. Produce a not-to-scale full galaxy map which includes nearby systems like Alpha Centauri and Sirius.

Compatibility:

The mod may be incompatible with mods that: change galaxy settings; change start up events; change prescripted systems. If people come across specific incompatibilities that they would like me to try to address, please let me know. You should still be able to play random galaxies as normal.

Terms of use in other mods:

As I am finished with this mod, feel free to use any part of it in other mods. If you want to credit me, do so, although it's not obligatory.

Credits:
Robert Hurt for the galaxy pic.

If anyone finds any bugs; has any suggestions for changes/improvements; or wants to see particular star systems in the mod, please let me know.

It's a good idea... oh well, looks like it won't happen.

@Kingdark, my personal life is stable now, but thanks for your thoughts.

@J_A_King, I have moved on from Stellaris now, and can't see myself returning to it (eagerly awaiting Distant Worlds 2!). However, in the past, I frequently asked PDX in their forums to add the feature you mention. I also asked for this via the Star Trek New Horizons mod team, which I used to participate in as the map designer. Unfortunately, they ignored these requests back then, and if they still haven't changed it, I suspect it must be extremely low priority for them - assuming it even has a priority! Good luck with it, though.

I would also mention that I think there are workarounds to this problem, but they require some extra knowledge of the workings of the scripting system.

@author: Okay, man, thanks for the original mod though. I hope you're doing well in your personal life.

One thing this mod could use is the ability to declare start locations for system initializers. I've added a request to PDX forums... check it out and chime in if you thing this would help! https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/declare-system-coordinates-in-the-system-initializer.1392438/

This mod has so much untapped potential :(

It hasn't been changed in months, so this was probably caused by a PDX update. Due to personal circumstances, I can no longer maintain this mod. Anyone else is free to take it over, provided they credit me and let me know that they are going to do it. To be honest, though, there have been so many changes to the game that this really needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

Why was the Sol System scaled down so much? Only Earth and Venus remain? Could you please add the whole system back?
Kingdark Feb 24, 2018 @ 4:43pm
That's unfortunate, but real life comes first. I have subscribed to the forum so if you ever update, posting it here so I know would be awesome!
Thanks!
