This E-100 is painted in a style inspired by the German anti-corrosion red oxide primer used during World War II. The "Rostschutzfarbe" (rust-protection paint) was applied to metal surfaces to prevent corrosion and prepare them for the final camouflage layers.
The red color came from iron oxide, the main component of the primer. As the war progressed and resources became increasingly scarce, many vehicles - especially prototypes and those used behind the frontlines - were often left in their primer coating, skipping the final camouflage paint to save time and materials.
