DRx Aphercotropist

Description
Aphercotropism is the way in which living things grow around obstacles. The Aphercotropist class is the DRx Shipyard's newest capital ship.

This is a basic all-rounder designed expressly for Survival mode, the central hub that a escaping fleet can huddle around. The spiritual successor to the Helican Omicron and housing over a 1000 souls, its a largely self reliant ship, capable of refuelling itself, growing its own food, replenishing water stocks and maintaining an atmosphere. Its a little slow, but more than sufficient to pursue a comet. The Helicans relied almost entirely on gunnery and salvaging to stay alive: the Aphercotropist relies on self-sufficiency, balance, and endurance.

Generally, water, air, and fuel production are split into separate reclamation and usage systems. Any imbalance will result in lots of surplus canisters, ideal for fleet logistics. Captains can see at a glance if there's a gap in their life support simply by eyeballing their cargo holds.

There's a fully equipped salvage and mining system for both asteroids and comets, using a fast drone swarm system. A light industrial block can process all materials and savage and generate anything you require, from tracks and doors through to Deflectors and replacement drones. A dedicated science unit is on hand, to handle the tech tree and process vital data coming from the singularity.

Finally, fleeing a deep space catastrophe need not be a lonely or miserable affair; there are multiple rec rooms for crew to enjoy.

This particular hull is roughly worth 35M spacebux, and comes with the basic badging and decalling of a ship of its class.

There's a starting complement here of 80 crew; we've found approximately 150-170 seems to be a good number: There's plenty to do on a ship of this size.

Bonus: added the original version's portrait. Yoiks!

It's a long process sometimes, with many dead ends. I've uploaded the original ship portrait - it wasn't exactly a shining moment. But something's in there, you try to tease it out, then throw it all out and start again. It goes nowhere again, so you turn off your computer, get out a sheet of paper and scribble down some sketches. Something clicks, so you go back to creative, mess around a bit, come up with a shape - try to ignore how you're going to fill it, tease until the proportions, or the lines, or the weight, or ... whatever sort of works and go from there. Its a multi-step process. Take your time: there's no rush. One thing that's hard to do - think in front of a computer.

Because you have talent for design. Us, the common folks, we can only make oval pancakes :)

I wish there were more aymetric ships in game, so don't stop creating :)

@sir Evans - Tell me about it. There's a preponderance of giant get-rich-quick boxes out there... :/

Updated the paint work. Hm. This vessel predates Alpha's 15 & 16, where detailing your ship was done by making a funky Habitat - not painting.

Pretty awesome, asymetric shape is a welcome change from many other ships :)
