Blood of Valyria - A AGOT Submod

Description
Blood of Valyria — A AGOT Submod.

⚔️ Contexte
In George R. R. Martin’s universe, the Valyrians are an ancient people from the Valyrian Peninsula. For centuries — even millennia — they practiced marriage within their own family to preserve the purity of their blood.

Before the Doom of Valyria, several Valyrian families had already settled in Westeros: the Targaryens, the Velaryons, and the Celtigars. After the catastrophe, these houses were the last remnants of that people on the continent. The Targaryens, in particular, established their rule through fire and blood by forging the Iron Throne 🔥

Over time, these families began to marry into Westerosi houses, while still maintaining the Valyrian tradition of incest. For many in the known world, “a name makes the blood” — a phrase that reflects this perception. However, genetically speaking, that’s not the case: a child born of just one Valyrian parent is far from a pureblood.

Several examples show the consequences of this dilution:
-Helaena and her brother share about 37% Valyrian blood, and their children are born with deformities.

-Aegon IV (31% of valyrian blood) and his sister-wife had only two surviving children.

-Jaehaerys II (3%) marries his sister — only two children are born (low fertility compared to other royal couples).

-The first, Aerys II, is infamous for his madness 🔥 Aerys marries his sister — their union is marked by miscarriages, children who die young, and an unstable heir. As for Daenerys, although she remained sane for most of her life, she descended into madness by the end of the series…

🐉 What does this mod do?
Removes the -95% inbreeding penalty for Valyrian houses (but keeps the diplomatic bonus).

Adds a system of genetic traits representing the percentage of Valyrian blood (from 1/32 to 32/32).

The percentage is shown in parentheses next to the trait name (e.g., 16/32), allowing for easy distinction even if traits share similar descriptions.

Each trait gives:
-An inbreeding resistance bonus (from -3% to -100%),
-A health bonus against diseases (from 0.03 to 1)
-An attraction opinion bonus (from +18 to +50).

It also gives you the possibility, via a game rule, to have an event when launching a new game in order to remove the dragons.

🎯 Why install this mod?
This mod introduces a more realistic approach to Valyrian genetics. A prestigious name is no longer enough to bypass the consequences of inbreeding!

You can no longer marry into Westerosi houses for three generations and suddenly go back to incest without repercussions… This adds real challenge and roleplay depth 😏

Fun example: if you start as Viserys III, you’ll have a 75% inbreeding penalty if you try marrying Daenerys…

Also allows you to not have dragons in bookmarks where there are any (only if you want).

⚙️ Game Rules
Three game rules (enabled by default):
-Automatically grants the trait "The blood of dragons and gods. (32/32)" to High Valyrian characters appearing mid-game.

-Automatically grants the trait "Closer to gods or men? (16/32)" to Westerosi Valyrian characters.

-Same for Essosi Valyrians.

-Deleting dragons (disabled by default): an event appears when the game starts, asking you if you really want to delete them.

🌍 Languages
The mod is available in French and English (but as English is not my native language, please be kind 🙏)

🧩 Compatibility
-Requires the A Game Of Thrones mod..

-No known conflicts with other submods (see modified files below).

-For use with AGOT+, install the compatch: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3488046120

-For use with Legacy of Valyria+, install the compatch: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3524852195

-Can be activated mid-save, but not recommended for optimal experience.

✅ Specific Additions
Adds 32 traits, each representing the percentage of Valyrian blood in a character. Each provides a -100% to -3% inbreeding penalty, +1 to +0.03 disease resistance, and +50 to +18 attraction opinion. -Huge increase in dragon egg hatching chance depending on blood purity. -Replaced Orthys_17_B with Targaryen_13_C as mother of Targaryen_14 and Ormollen_18_B with mother of Velaryon_7_B (so Aegon I and his sisters are considered pure Valyrian). -Added physique_bad_3 to Targaryen_30 (Aenys I) to reflect his poor health. - Added three game rules (enabled by default) to annually assign traits 32/32 and 16/32 to High Valyren or Westerosi/Essosi-Valyrian characters without parents or children. - Added a game rule to have an event at the start of the game to kill all dragons.

🐛 Known Bug
Some historical characters (like Lucerys Velaryon or Viserys Targaryen, brother of Jaehaerys I) who died as children may not visibly display the mod trait in bookmarks where they appear dead.

hello, if i understood the comment right there are suggestions about making the blood trait stronger that seemed rather complicated to implement. I would suggest maybe more simplified version such as when you marry people with the same blood trait over generations there is a chance to upgrade blood trait. you could then modify the how many gens it takes and upgrade change based on what you think is appropriate. apologies if this has already been suggested

so this only effects the inbreeding and stuff and not the actual taming of dragons, i feel like your blood of valryia trait should directly correlate to your ability to claim a dragon or in game terms effect your dragon blood percentage. perhaps this is too complicated idk but it was the main reason they inbred in the first place.

Are there any plans updating this mod?
James Aug 17 @ 8:18am
@Blackfish I agree sort of. Whilst there is traces of Valyrian blood within the free cities, it is only the Lyseni that are repeatedly mentioned to truly bear the resemblance and ancestry heralding the Valyrian empire. Specifically, more than anywhere else in Planetos, the blood of Valyria is strong even within the small folk of the Lyseni who espouse the atypical valyrian look (white/golden hair + purple eyes). The Volantene on the other hand, only have a small and specific sect that can trace purest and unbroken descent to the Valyrian empire however, the average Volantene does not posses that much in the same way it is notable within all the Lyseni. The Lyseni nobility are probably the only that can come close to the pure blooded Volantene; evidenced by Aegon IV's mistress who was the last daughter from an ancient (Valyria) but impoverished noble family.

@JimmyG1970 [CONT] The Velaryons themselves had intermarried/interbred with the noble populace's surrounding Driftmark prior to the Targaryens even setting up a colony in Dragonstone. They also never had pure dragon blood or pure valyrian blood because of that but remember they were laregly an inconsequential valyrian house in the grand scheme of the valyrian empire. Even the targaryens were ranked on the lower rung of the ladder of the forty dragon riding families that ruled the valyrian empire. Despite that, a member of House Targaryen has never failed to tame a dragon despite the danger the texts refers to. TLDR: The Targaryens stopped being pure dragon bloods the moment they married the Velaryons. The only "pure blood valryian" are the specific sect of the volatene who can trace unbroken descent to the freehold (soldiers and low nobles). Pure valyrian blood =/= dragon blood. Enjoy the mod, have fun, im just a nerd lol.
James Aug 17 @ 7:55am
@JimmyG1970 That's my point. I understand this mod is for fun but there is no pure valyrian dragon blood. Nettles taming sheepstealer is strongly inferred to be as a consequence of the dragon's appetite coupled with the practices the Valyrian's used prior to delving into blood magic et al. After the doom, the Targaryen's ceased to be pure blooded the moment they interbred with the velaryons which was noted to be several times prior to the conquest and was evidenced by Aegon I's mother being a Velaryon whose own Velaryon parent was half a Targaryen also. Only the specifc sect of the volantene can trace unbroken and direct ancestry to the valyrian freehold and even then it isnt dragonblood its pure valyrian blood (soldiers and low nobles).

I have another question. Would spawning characthers with valyrian blood system break if i create a divergent culture from high valyrian?
Blackfish Jul 31 @ 3:45pm
if someone else said it already im sorry but its a big lore accuracy issue for me

The Free Cities Each should have a degree of Valyrian Blood since they are continiously mentioned (especially Lyseni) to have Valyrian Blood still running strong in them. This normally wouldnt be a big issue but it significantly reduces the amount of Valyrian Blood with Targaryens,Velaryons and Celtigars.
something like (this could and should change)
Lyseni %60
Pentoshi%30
Tyroshi%30
Myrish%30

@Gorbish
If your mod modifies characters already present in the base version of the mod (usually Targaryens), then unfortunately no.
PS: Sorry for the wait, I thought I'd answered, but apparently not...
