H2CA Sanctuary "Tech Demo"

Beskrivning

"Tech demo" map to showcase all kinds of things I've been working on for a massive undertaking of a Halo 2 project aimed at restoring Halo 2 to the ways it was intended to look alongside some improvements. This is considered a work in progress build and was done to give myself a goal to keep pushing the project forward, as I kept getting way too hung up on graphical experiments. Many assets in this build are placeholders, and are not representative of the final ideas. Please keep an open mind if something looks "better but simpler", or if some things have not been altered at all yet.

This project's goals are best summarized as "Restoring the game to the intended design of the original developers while also taking advantage of modern hardware & engine features to provide the best version of Halo 2 possible." On a core level, this mod project already restores a lot of Halo 2's downgraded visual assets and is being worked on to push it even further beyond while still preserving the original's exact style & identity.

This showcase makes use/demonstration of:
  • Enhanced lighting.
  • Dynamic shadow casted lighting.
  • Restored Xbox colour & bloom.
  • Enhanced model topology.
  • Tons of remade textures (in various stages of complete or not)
  • New shader templates & enhanced shaders across the board.
  • Additional sounds to take advantage of newer features added to the engine in MCC.
  • DSP within close by-ear approximation of the Xbox version of Halo 2.

Please report any issues, xbox inconsistencies, or etc on the project's Discord server as I am much more likely to notice it there.

Good to know, thanks. I'll update this with some of the updated assets in the near future given the opportunity.

I don't think I can access this map as of the latest MCC update, version 1.3495.0.0. According to the Halo Mods Discord, you can set the mod's game version to 0.0.0.0 to prevent it from being hidden when the game's updated!

Very very good. If it were possible to combine the graphics of this with one of the rebalances it'd be pretty much the definitive way to experience Halo 2 on PC imo

This is genuinely amazing, keeps that iconic and perfect H2 classic artstyle while upgrading the textures and getting rid of that muddy look the textures had. Absolutely perfect...perfect!

Multiplayer was honestly intended to be an afterthought, my main goal has always been the campaign. Like the description states I took on a multiplayer map as a sort-of demo for the project because I got too wrapped up in experiments of things I can do instead of doing work that progresses the project like fixing up the actual assets

Looks amazing, very nice work. Will this be a multiplayer only thing?

the higher resolution textures and materials especially on the battle rifle are beautiful

Looking around so far, everything else is very well done. The human weapons are probably the most well done models, the battle rifle especially.
The Elite model could use some work to make it more consistent with the sharper-looking first person hands it's now attached to, and the Spartan model is too clean looking. I'd be curious to see the Spartan materials on the Elites, though. With some colors, the highlights take on a red hue.
Mostly minor gripes, otherwise. Good work, I'm looking forward to seeing the full project realized. I'm especially curious to see the multiplayer maps with the enhanced lighting, and shaders.
