Description
George Harvey Collegiate Institute is a High School located in Toronto Ontario, Canada. This high school opened in 1952 as a vocational high school and was designed by "John B. Parkin Associates". The school has been expanded several times since its opening; first in 1958 with a small classroom addition and auto shop, then in 1963 two large classroom wings were added; one to the north of the campus which added more science labs, and a second on the site of the original shops wing which added more classroom space and new shop classrooms. In 1964 the school's swimming pool would be added. The final expansion would come in 1972 when the third floor was added which gave the school a new larger cafeteria. In 2019 students from the nearby "York Memorial Collegiate Institute" began using the George Harvey CI campus after their school was closed due to a severe fire. In 2021 the two high schools students and staff were merged together with the campus now being the temporary home of a"York Memorial Collegiate Institute" until repairs on the old York Memorial are completed in 2026. After that it is likely the George Harvey campus will be sold for redevelopment.
