Roland (Library of Ruina)

Warning! This mod contains major story spoilers for the game Library of Ruina, developed by Project Moon.

Roland, from Library of Ruina, is a semi-fast swordfighter, equipped with a multitude of tools, weapons, and Abnormality Pages in order to win any Reception he enters. While he may not have the best conventional stage control or presence, watch out for his powerful attacks at mid range.

Roland has a few gameplay mechanics meant to simulate Library of Ruina combat; Emotion Level, Light and Pages, and his own character specific mechanic regarding his nine weapons.



By hitting the very tip of his attacks, or hitting opponents while they attack, Roland will gain Positive Emotion Points. At a certain amount he will level up his Emotion Level, and can use his Nspecial to gain a permanent boost using Abnormality Pages. These boosts range from damage or defense buffs, to resource management buffs. Roland can gain 5 Abnormality Pages through-out the match. Obtaining Abnormality Pages additionally grants Roland more resources to spend on his pages.
Roland can gain Negative Emotion Points by getting hit himself during one of his attacks. Gaining Negative Emotion Points will impede your progress to a boost.

Using Roland's light (located above him at all times), he can remove all sourspots from his weapons using the pages he has in his hand (located down on his hud) using Nspecial. Roland's hand is randomized at the beginning of the round, and when he uses a page, it's sent to his discard pile. When Roland doesn't have enough light to spend on a page, it will be tinted red on his hud. Additionally, Roland draws a page and restores some of his light every so often.

Upon using all 9 of his pages successfully, Roland gains access to his signature finisher: Furioso.
Furioso is a powerful cinematic attack and can kill opponents at early percentages, but only if Roland hits his activation hitbox. He can miss 3 times before he has to restart the process of getting Furioso.

Notable tips/tricks with attacks:
- Fspecial: Atelier Logic is a multi input attack if the first hit lands. While boosted with the Atelier Logic page, the subsequent attacks of Fspecial will automatically aim at the opponent.
- Uspecial: Scene Start can travel in any direction, and at the end of the attack, Roland can use an aerial.
- Dspecial: Waltz in Black can be angled up on the ground, and down in the air.
- Roland's hud shows the current progress of his Emotion Level, the pages in his hand (and their costs), any Abnormality Pages he has, the current Page he is using, and the inputs/attacks that page is tied to.
